I won’t be attending the Obama Presidential Center opening. I stand with the Black contractors and workers who have been left behind. The African American Contractors Association has reported that at least 10 Black-owned firms are owed millions of dollars for work connected to the project. At the same time, President Obama declined to support a Community Benefits Agreement that many residents believed could have helped protect longtime Black families from displacement and rising housing costs.
The South Side deserved development that created wealth and stability for the people who stayed through decades of disinvestment. Instead, too many Black contractors are still fighting to get paid, and too many Black residents are being pushed out of the very neighborhood this project was supposed to uplift. Progress should be measured by how the community benefits not by the size of the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
Governor JB Pritzker signed his $56B budget yesterday, bringing the number of tax and fee increases in his two terms to 63.
In his two terms, his tax increases have taken a cumulative $77 billion more from taxpayers, and this does not include an additional $8.5B a year higher property taxes since 2019.
Illinois residents now pay the highest state and local taxes and fees in the entire nation. Pritzker’s tax policies have throttled Illinois economy, which has produced less than 10K private sector job growth since Pritzker became governor.
Another Pritzker budget, another plethora of tax increases.
Pritzker’s eight new tax increases will take another $800 million from Illinois workers. This brings JB’s total tax and fee increases to 65, amounting to $8.5 billion annually, leaving Illinois residents paying the highest taxes and fees in the country.
Effective state and local tax rates totaled nearly 17% for a median Illinois household last year, compared to the national average of just 11.02%. Unbelievably, that is even higher than No. 2-ranked New York at 14.95%. Meanwhile, Illinois property taxes have increased by $11 billion, or 33%.
Illinois’ economy has performed so poorly that nearly all revenue growth used to fund the state’s ever-expanding government has come from tax increases rather than economic growth. In fact, since Pritzker took office, almost all employment growth has been in government jobs.
Illinois residents—particularly middle- and upper-income earners—are voting with their feet. Since Pritzker took office, Illinois has continued to lose residents, while the state’s population decline has been offset by a surge in migrant arrivals, which some estimates place at more than 500,000 people. Surveys also show that roughly half of remaining residents say they would leave Illinois if they had the means to do so.
Every parent in America should be furious right now.
District 300, based in Algonquin, Illinois, secretly transitioned a high school boy for years without telling his mother, even as he was hospitalized for suicidal ideation. They ignored her objections and pushed the full gender plan anyway.
Now she is suing the district and Illinois’ entire gender guidance system in Chicago federal court as the DOJ investigates 36 Illinois school districts for the exact same parental exclusion.
When did public schools decide they could secretly replace moms and dads?
Gov. JB Pritzker’s solution to avoid embarrassment and escape accountability is to just change the metrics.
Pritzker’s State Board of Education’s response to the abysmal test scores was to boost them by lowering state proficiency rates. Embarrassed by poor student attendance, they stopped factoring it into school ratings.
For Pritzker, this is solving the problem.
Chicago Public Schools should be delighted.
Both Chicago student and teacher “chronic absenteeism” rates are over 40%. In a clear sign of school failure, Chicago’s high school students’ chronic absenteeism rate grows from 43% for freshmen to ~72% for seniors.
Governor Pritzker is completely out-of-touch with reality if he thinks he's made life more affordable for Illinois families. Our residents pay the highest tax rates in the nation, and @GovPritzker's relentless tax and fee hikes have only made things worse. #twill
@GovPritzker WHY are you so obsessed with with the President! Fix Illinois! The roads are a disaster! You have put taxes on EVERYTHING! Geez enough already!
@GovPritzker Pritzger should focus on the disaster he created in Illinois-highest property taxes-high gas tax, criminals run wild due to the Safe T Act he signed. Every time he opens his mouth you hear “TRUMP”.
