Would The Internet Be This Quiet If Lagos Rewarded Only Super Falcons From Lagos?
I purposely waited a few days to see if people, like Omoyele Sowore, who excoriated Lagos over the street renaming, would also direct their anger towards Imo State for its selective reward of only Super Falcons of Imo State origin.
But did you notice that not a single person who complained about the renaming of streets in Lagos to reflect its culture and history has condemned the act by the Imo State Government to reward only Super Falcons of Igbo origin?
It was almost as if the incident had never occurred to them. Instead, they took turns attacking the Super Falcons for 'disgracing' themselves by kneeling to greet the President and First Lady! Can you imagine? This is something that even British Prime Ministers do to members of the Royal Family.
This again is the selective outrage I have written about time and time again.
If a lesser thing happens in Lagos, these individuals, chiefly Obidients, prodded on by meetings they have had in their shadowy WhatsApp groups, will amplify it and paint Lagos and its leaders as ethnic irredentists.
But they run for cover and kill the story when it occurs in the Southeast. What is their agenda?
Okafor's car was vandalised in Lagos and trended 'Lagos is unsafe', Fish Magnet is kidnapped and murdered in Anambra, and everywhere is quiet.
These same people would have broken the Internet had it taken place in Lagos.
Yet Lagos is the only state that employs Nigerians from every state in the federation in large numbers.
For clarity's sake, I see nothing wrong with Imo State rewarding only Falcons from the state. It would be wrong if they rewarded other Igbo Falcons from outside the state. In that case, it would become an ethnic issue. But if it was only Imo Falcons, then it would be right and proper.
Lagos State, for example, has rewarded athletes from other states, including Imo, and has in the past made several youths from the Southeast as One Day Governors of the state, including Chukwuebuka Anisiobi, 2001, Ikechukwu Abundance Nlemadim, 2006, and Lilian Ogbuefi, 2012, amongst others.
Now, I ask you to imagine that Lagos State chose to honour only those Super Falcons of Lukumi Yoruba origin, would Peter Obi, Oby Ezekwesili, and their horde of Rudapest Obidients have been silent?
Remember how Oby Ezekwesili almost set Nigeria on fire by alluding, falsely as it turned out, that a Lukumi Yoruba Muslim JAMB Registrar General was trying to cheat an Igbo Christian girl named Mmesomma Ejikeme, until Miss Ejikeme's fraud was exposed. And then, Oby Ezekwesili retreated back into her shell without apologising.
She and Peter Obi did the same thing when the Landmark Beach Resort was demolished. Lagos was accused of "ethnic baiting", even though Oniru Beach, owned by a Lagos family, was also brought down.
But when the Anambra State Government demolished Innoson's head office, they both went deaf, dumb and blind.
Pray, when will the respective outrage end?

Forty-eight hours after the kidnapping and brutal murder of Ifesinachi Onyekere, popularly known as Fish Magnet, Peter Obi has still not said a word!
Please fact-check me: It took Peter Obi four hours to respond to the Utomi killings. It took him six hours to react to the burning of Deborah Samuels. It took him eight hours to release a statement on the killings of soldiers in Okuoma, Delta State. And Peter Obi condemned the Yelewata massacre immediately.
But once the killings occur in Igboland, Peter Obi suddenly goes deaf, blind, and dumb.
It is part of his regular trademark. Peter Obi will chop and clean his mouth if it occurs in the Southeast. But if it happens in the North or Southwest, Obi will dance naked in public.
Or am I lying?
Dr. Okafor Emmanuel's car was vandalised in Lagos, and Obidients trended 'Lagos is not safe'. Ifesinachi Onyekere is kidnapped and murdered, but nobody has trended 'Anambra is not safe'. Why the different reactions?
By the way, I have one question for Obidients. Why is it okay with you for Peter Obi to attack and criticise President Tinubu daily, but you do not want anyone to counter your Peter Obi? Are you sure you guys have sufficient emotional intelligence required to practice democracy?

Three days ago, a gentleman named Dr. Okafor had his car vandalised in the Lekki area of Lagos. Because of that incident, he declared that "Lagos is not safe." That statement trended and became an anthem of the opposition, especially the Obidient movement.
Twenty four ago, a young entrepreneur from Anambra was abducted in his state and eventually murdered. And the same people who trended 'Lagos is not safe' have not raised the issue of 'Anambra is not safe'.
I sympathise with Dr. Okafor, however, the bias in reporting news in Nigeria is dangerously alarming. There is no balance or equality in news coverage. The outrage of certain sections of the population depends on where and to whom the tragedy occurs.
And it is very sad.
Let me just say that Lagos is the safest major city in Nigeria. You can work from Monday to Friday without being harassed, and the state provides subsidised world-class public transportation to indigenes and residents. So, even in the UNLIKELY event that your car is vandalised, you have an affordable alternative.
Please fact-check me: 74 cars are stolen daily in London, and more than a hundred are nicked in New York each day. But you don't see residents of those states and cities coming on social media to de-market the places they call home.
And anyone who believes that 'Lagos is not safe' because some cars were vandalised is free to move to any of Nigeria's 35 other states or the Federal Capital Territory.
But to reside in Lagos and enjoy the world-class infrastructure, relative peace, and economic prosperity that made TimeOut magazine list the city as the 19th best city to live in on Earth, yet try to undermine her is an abuse of the welcome that the State and its people have given to all Nigerians.
