@Heaton_T_J @dr_eleanor_gee Yes, in my experience looking at subfossil kauri, they typically have root plates that are much smaller in diameter that are shallowly seated - with structural “peg roots” that are numerous. That’s why these trees are prone to wind throw. The model doesn’t reflect reality!

@tgatte @ed_hawkins @Azure @JordiRib1 I’d say yes. Prescribed constraints on the transcription specific to meteorological data could see immediate improvements of 15-20% just by constraining some categories (eg atmospheric pressure). Augmented training libraries would also push it up even more for some methods.
