My dad turned 81 last week. This is one of the books I got him for his birthday, along with @prof_shelton’s The Education Myth. As my old friend @jonmikefred knows, Thomas Paine is the official pamphleteer of Independence Day.

Just think: 250 yrs ago, Continental Congressman Benjamin Rush sought out immigrant Thomas Paine to push him to write in favor of American independence - which led Paine to publish COMMON SENSE in January 1776 and turn a colonial rebellion into the American Revolution!

On an exam, Jon couldn’t remember the pamphlet Paine wrote that *wasn’t* Common Sense, so he made up a title—“Arise Ye, Rebels!”
