22% of Canadian homebuilders cancel projects amid high rates despite severe housing shortage. I predicted this a year ago and now we have the data.
This is going to get worse before it gets better - it would be great to see a crisis level response to this from our Federal gov't, because that is what we need.
Financing is a major challenge. Major. The gov't needs to step up and use all of the mechanisms in its power, through CMHC, to respond to this moment.
Slow approvals processes were a problem in the past - today the issue is financing as a result of high interest rates. These projects being cancelled already have planning/zoning approvals. Think about that for a second - this is a major shift in just two years.
Crisis level response required from all levels of government.

"…an Ottawa Police Service constable said they had sifted through the donor list and found two “Briannes,” neither of whom lived in British Columbia. “The information posted is false,” the e-mail said." https://t.co/LoS835NxYf
To clarify, this interaction highlights the Americanization of Canadians’ understanding of our laws and politics. Protestors raised concerns about their Miranda rights not being read to them (which isn’t a right in Canada). The convoy is highlighting a fundamental problem.
Under the Charter, freedoms in Canada are not absolute - they are subject to common-sense limitations.
Jamming emergency 911 lines with false calls isn't a fundamental freedom.
Being "free" to incite this mischief is not Charter-protected either.👇
