When Jesus said, “I am the Good Shepherd,” He was saying far more than most of us realize.
A shepherd wasn’t just someone who owned sheep. He lived with them, led them, protected them, and knew them individually. The sheep depended on the shepherd for everything.
That’s why this picture is so powerful.
Jesus didn’t say, “I am a good teacher” or “I am a good example.” He said, “I am the Good Shepherd.”
A teacher can give advice and leave. A shepherd stays.
One of the most comforting parts of John 10 is where Jesus says that He knows His sheep. Think about that for a moment. He knows your strengths, your weaknesses, your fears, your struggles, and every mistake you’ve ever made, yet He still calls you His own.
The Good Shepherd doesn’t abandon His sheep when danger comes. He protects them.
And unlike every other shepherd, Jesus proved His love by laying down His life for the sheep.
The cross wasn’t an accident. It was the Shepherd willingly giving His life so the sheep could live.
The amazing thing is that sheep have a tendency to wander. We do too. Yet Jesus is still the Shepherd who goes after the lost, calls them by name, and brings them back.
The message of the Good Shepherd isn’t that we’re strong enough to find our own way.
It’s that we have a Shepherd who is faithful enough to lead us home.
A final piece of advice from Holly Butcher - written the day before she passed away from cancer at just 27:
“It’s a strange thing knowing you’re going to die young.
At 26, I thought I had time…
To fall in love.
Start a family.
Grow old.
But cancer doesn’t care about plans.
Now, I understand how fragile life really is. Every single day is a gift, not a guarantee.
I’m not writing this to scare you. I’m writing to remind you: really live.
Stop stressing over little things. Be kind to your body- move it, nourish it, stop criticizing it. One day you’ll wish you had appreciated it.
Go outside.
Look at the sky.
Feel the sun.
Just be.
Spend less time chasing “stuff” - more time making memories. Don’t skip moments with people you love.
Laugh more.
Write a note.
Tell someone you love them.
Complain less.
Give more.
Helping others brings more joy than anything you can buy.
Be present.
Put your phone down.
Show up - really show up.
You don’t need to have it all figured out. You don’t need a perfect body, or a perfect life.
Just follow what makes your heart light up. Say no to what drains you. Make changes when you need to.
And please - donate blood. I wouldn’t have had that extra year without it. And that year gave me memories I’ll hold close… forever.
Thank you for reading this.
Live your life well.
And maybe… we’ll meet again someday.”

@gatorgar Yes, you can!! There are MANY types of different Christian churches and denominations. Ask the Lord to lead you. Visit a few and pray, asking Him to confirm the one you should attend. Personally, I recommend one where the Holy Spirit is welcome, but He will lead you. God bless 🙏
@LVCVA We used to go to Vegas a few times a year, now it's down to once, maybe twice. We enjoy playing slots and there used to be a give and take with them, now they just take. Not expecting a windfall, but it's just not fun anymore. The amt that used to last us 4 days, now only lasts 2
@TheFallGuyMovie Thank you for making such a fun, action-packed film!! ❤️Gosling and Blunt together❤️ Can't understand why it didn't just explode at the box office!! Stuntmen deserve Oscars!!!
@alex_faust@LAKings This is horrible news! I'm so disappointed they weren't able to find a way to keep you. You will be greatly missed!! But I'm confident you will find gainful employment very quickly 🙂
