๐ฃ๏ธ Scarva protest: Sinn Fรฉin MLA questions 'bloodbath' remarks made by DUP MP
๐ฅ๐ค Sinn Fรฉin MLA @DeirdreHargey tells our reporter @mckee23_r that DUP MP Carla Lockhart should clarify comments she made around a pro-Palestine march and counter-protest.
The Upper Bann MP is facing criticism after she was photographed standing near masked individuals in Scarva on Saturday, who were demonstrating against a march organised by the Ireland-Palestine Solidarity Campaign as it passed by.
Ms Lockhart criticised the police presence in the area and said that she was in Scarva with other unionist elected representatives to de-escalate tensions.
The MP said that by intervening, she, along with colleagues "were able to keep what could have been an absolute bloodbath very quiet, peaceful, and ultimately no incidents."
DUP leader Gavin Robinson said it was "entirely appropriate" for Ms Lockhart to be at the counter-demonstration along with other MLAs and councillors from the party.
Alliance MP says she's not sure MLAs - like her colleague David Honeyford - 'fully realised' they were getting paid twice for fuel https://t.co/ux8Cifq3fF
