"If we let good ideas and successful efforts stay in their own boxes in their own communities, their impact is powerful but limited. But when we share them, we build on each other’s lessons and we all climb higher." - @SuzanneBouffard https://t.co/FMAgMLGCf9

Building relationships doesn't just help with behavior in the classroom, but students also work harder for teachers they like and respect. Relationships before rigor.
Introverts drain too fast. That's why they don't connect with everybody. They want to, but they need time. To observe. To assess. To trust. To dive deep and connect right. They're not closed off, they just want someone that matters. That feels true to their soul. That's all.
NEW: 3 Admin Moves Will Help Grow Mutual Respect. #mschat#leadered@AMLE@NAESP#edutwitter
If school leaders (1) offer meaningful feedback; (2) are highly visible; and (3) aren’t led astray by the Good Idea Fairy, they won’t be among “those who can’t.”

During parent conferences, I kept talking about books and importance of reading. Want to be a better writer? Read. Want to be a better reader? Read. Want to be empathetic? Read. Want to increase vocab? Read. This is my hill to die on. Create a community of readers
Listening moves us closer, it helps us become more whole, more healthy, more holy. Not listening creates fragmentation, and fragmentation is the root of all suffering--Margaret Wheatley, Turning to One Another

If a student turns something in late, it doesn’t mean the student has less understanding of the content, assignments turned in on time doesn’t mean the student knows the content more.
If a student learns should be more important than “when.”
NEW: No One Taught Us How to Be Assistant Principals. #mschat#educoach#edleaderhip#LeadLAP#apchat

New teachers, keep an eye out for red flags as you connect with colleagues:
🚩Brags about yelling at students
🚩“I don’t give out A’s in MY class”
🚩Rolls their eyes at everything the principal says
🚩Instantly wants to give you negative intel about your roster
What else?
I tell kids to "curate their critics": to create a list of 4 to 5 people they respect who also understand them & root for them. If someone on that list offers feedback, they should take it to heart. Otherwise, others' opinions should not alter their self-concept or their actions.
