@VonVladimierV@WEschenbach@KirkegaardEmil Degrees being the same size doesn't help much when Stefan-Boltzmann has T^4. The complexity comes from the offset zero, not the degree size.
The one and only virtue of Celsius is that the degrees are the same size as Kelvin, making it easy to convert to actual scientific units. 0C is kind of interesting as being somewhere near the freezing point of water at everyday pressures, but freezing and melting are messy processes and in practice water freezes and melts across a range. Boiling is even worse. Water boils in a range around 95.4C at my house, which is no easier to work with than 203.7F. The fact that it boils closer to 100C in some places is not obviously more useful than the fact that it boils around 100F in other places. (Roughly 60000 feet above sea level.)
@actingliketommy Ok, but how about instead of making them "tax dollars", you keep your dollars and I'll keep mine and we can each decide what to buy to benefit ourselves? We'll call it, I dunno, "free exchange"?
@RealElliottHope@uncle_deluge Ozenne originates in Normandy, and I don't really know how they'd pronounce it there. The California branch of the family from which I originate all pronounces it o-ZEEN. Even if I knew the original pronunciation why would I consider that more correct?
@NateSilver538 There's no central authority of English, and hence no "official". There's only assorted style guides and a usage histogram. Thus the only tool for deliberate change is persuasion.
@lymanstoneky If you could produce an Earth-like atmosphere somehow it would hang around for tens of millions of years. So like as long as you can keep producing it at least that fast you're good.
@sarahhepola At home I'd probably pull the wheels, put them in my other car, and take them over to Discount Tire. Does that count? On the road I might either swap to the spare or call a tow service, depending on location safety, outdoor temperature, etc.
@jenatlionra It's pattern matching. It's writing the kind of resume that goes along with those names. You're railing at the fact that women write different resumes than men. You could always try writing your own.
