@bill_papas_12 will be giving the alpha on all things @unruggable_io 👀
Holders will also be able to ask any questions they may have!
See you there! 🫡
Today brings us pretty much to exactly a week since @unruggable_io was submitted to the @ColosseumOrg hackathon, and the night before the twitter and alpha testing will go live.
Below a post mortem of hackathon and the last week getting us from a submitted project to ready for alpha testing.
Submitting to the hackathon requires demos, docs, videos, pitch decks along with a working product/repo. The github for unruggable is open source, and also contains the demo for the wallet. During the final week of the hackathon, congestion on @solana was absolutely horrible and getting transactions to go through was basically impossible. This was a major spanner in the works, as we only test in production at @metamenft (only possible on SOL with the low fees), so a solution was needed.
Additionally the congestion was leading users to simply give up on transactions as they couldn't go through. I had already integrated Jito for executing swaps on @JupiterExchange so the logical next step was to expand @jito_labs transactions for everything.
Unruggable is inspired by Linux, and it's command line specialised approach, and every 'module' that offers additional functionality to unruggable is a standaline file/cli. This means anyone can simply run the function using the file/select which functionalities they want.
This led to adding a new module 'aka Hermes' which allows unurggable users to carry out all wallet interactions (send SOL/SPL/NFT) via jito endpoints, offering near instant transaction confirmation and settlement.
funny note here - when congestion on SOL was bad, you coul install unruggable and all dependecies and send a tx using jito quicker than any soft wallets in browser could get a simple wallet to wallet transfer to land.
The first 3 weeks of the hackathon were pretty much heads down building the core wallet / solana cli wrapper, and having it handle user commands, and offer the same quality of life as a soft wallet (token data, usd prices, balances etc..)
The final week was a push making sure unruggable would work seamlessly on any Operating System, keep compatibility with existing solana cli installs, add permissioned folders, ensure modules would be loaded and useable.
The last three days in particular were a balance between prioritising features and making sure demos were updated to show that feature off, pitch deck was coherent and to the point (judges aint got time for all that) and i probbaly got 6 hours sleep total.
Once submitted and after a bit of rest, some daring souls decided to try unruggable without support/guidance and provided invaluable feedback. Although unurggable was submission ready i wasnt happy with it in alpha, due to delayed load times, unoptimised calls/searches and small bugs throughout. Let's run through the patches implemented this week:
1 - Pantheon support - pantheon is our suite of tools named after the ancient greek gods, that enable users to take advantage of what are usually dev only features within the unurggable UI. These are js scripts compartmentalised to be standalone cli's and Hermes was expanded to offer support for SOL/tokens and NFTs, and some compute unit optimisation was implemented to make transactions land more consistently
2 - NFT and token lookup was slow - and as we are ofc far right of the IQ curve dev we ofc use grep. Grep over big files in loops isnt great, so we paralellised the search by indexing the hashes on the first letter and looking up the table. 10x improvement in load times and parsing owned assets
3 - USD prices for tokens were fresh but any delay on the side of JUP which is where our pricing comes from led to hold ups on the UI display and both me and users don't like lag. The solution was to implement a in memory caching of prices, which splits up the API calls and significantly reduces the number of repeated requests, whilst keeping prices within 60 seconds of current ones
What's next for unruggable ?

GM frens, time for an update! 🫡
As many of you know, we’ve been working on @unruggable_io, our entry to the @ColosseumOrg Solana Renaissance Hackathon that has been running from the 4th March - 8th April!
Our new product, Unruggable, is a decentralized, privacy-based Crypto wallet that comes in both soft-wallet and hard-wallet versions.
Unruggable wallet allows users to fully own their Crypto/NFT assets and protects them from the most common rugs including wallet drains, phishing links and iCloud hacks.
After a long month of building and a lot of coffee (like, seriously loads), we’re excited to announce that we successfully submitted Unruggable into the Solana Renaissance Hackathon!
A huge amount of work from the Metame team has gone into getting it ready for submission within the deadline.
For anyone that might not be too familiar with the Solana Hackathon, it’s an online competition run by Colosseum/Solana foundation, designed to grow the Solana startup ecosystem.
The hackathon provides the perfect opportunity for both Metame and Unruggable, to showcase what we’ve built while competing against other elite builders in the space.
Our goal is to make Unruggable the highest quality product possible, and for that, we need your feedback.
Unruggable will be pushed to alpha TOMORROW, and we want the Metame community to help and build with us.
We will be creating a new ‘Unruggable Alpha Tester’ role.
This will allow you early access to try the alpha version of Unruggable wallet for yourself and provide us with any feedback, comments and ideas you may have!
We want as much of the community to get involved as possible.
If you want to help us with testing Unruggable (this would take around 30 minutes of your time), please reach out to a member of our community team, @CJ_onSol, @Zeck_Sol, @noirxsol, or create a ticket in Discord, and you’ll be given the role!
In addition, a Discord AMA on Unruggable will be held later this month by @bill_papas_12 to run through why we’re creating it, a live demo of how it works, the problems it solves and answer any questions the community has. A date for this will be announced soon!
A lot of hard work has gone into building Unruggable and we’re extremely excited to share more details with the community very soon.
If you haven’t already, make sure to follow Unruggable and turn on notifications: @unruggable_io
In addition to the work on Unruggable, we wanted to share a quick update on Merch and HD on-chain.
MERCH
As you know, we pushed our Merch leaderboard last month - this is a leaderboard where holders accumulate points in order to receive a free Metame hoodie made by the one and only @QDotStudio!
Claiming for hoodies will go live later this month.
We can’t wait to see the community reppin’ some Metame merch!
HD ON-CHAIN
We mentioned in our previous announcement that we have now created a new standard that will enable every Metame to be full HD and on-chain.
The new standard is completed and ready, it just needs to be implemented and updated.
This has taken a slight backseat due to the tight deadline with the Solana Hackathon, however, now that we've fully submitted, HD on-chain should be finished and implemented in the coming weeks.
We will be sure to update the community on both Merch and HD on-chain when ready - stay tuned for updates!
THANK YOU
Lastly, we would like to thank the Metame community for their unwavering support, zero toxicity and being the best online family, but most importantly of all, letting the team go after our ambitions.
We love what we do and we are so grateful to have such an amazing community that supports us in everything we do.
We will continue to build regardless of NFT market conditions and build Metame step by step, until we’re undeniable.
Right, back to work, LFG 🫡🩶
In December, we inscribed the entire Metame collection on Solana using our own custom on-chain contract that was built in-house by our team.
The total cost of this was 500 SOL (currently $96,000), as we inscribed every single Metame at the maximum file size to retain its quality as much as possible.
This cost was covered entirely by the team and we did not charge holders to inscribe their Metame on-chain.
A cost that was worth it in our eyes to make history for the team and for the community, as we became the first community-inscribed NFT project on Solana, and our holders now truly own their NFTs rather than a 'link to a JPEG' as we've heard before.
Here's some more things about us:
1) NO LAUNCHPAD
We could have outsourced this to a third-party, but wanted to provide a unique minting experience on our website. This took 4 months and was created fully in-house by our team.
2) NO PRESALE
While we were asked on a daily basis for months about a presale, we didn't believe that we should take the community's money before the project was ready.
3) NO ROYALTIES
We didn't believe that we should take liquidity away from holders by adding royalties. With Metame also being on-chain and based on the same concept as Bitcoin Ordinals, we wanted to have the same mechanics (Ordinals currently do not have royalties).
4) INSTANT ART REVEAL
We revealed our artwork instantly at mint. Many times we have seen projects mint without finished artwork. In our eyes, having the artwork finished before mint is the most important thing to have ready. We could have easily minted earlier to raise more SOL, but we didn't feel it was right to mint without our artwork being finished.
5) ONLY 1500 SUPPLY
The original supply for Metame was 5000, however we reduced this to 1500 to ensure a more suitable and long-term feasible supply for all market conditions.
6) ON-CHAIN
We believe in decentralization and truly owning your NFT. We created our own custom on-chain contract in-house that took over 7 months to create along with our on-chain experience that was also created fully in-house. 500 SOL ($96k) was spent to inscribe the entire Metame collection on-chain on Solana.
7) SOME OF THE HIGHEST QUALITY ART IN NFTS
We won't say we're the 'best' as art is subjective,
but we will say that we are some of the cleanest and highest quality PFP art you can find in NFTs on ANY chain.
We spent 18 months creating the artwork for Metame and over 4 months generating the collection due to its complexity.
Creating a human anime PFP is one of the hardest, if not THE hardest, collections to create. We truly believe that art matters and that the amount of work that we put into the collection reflects that.
8) EVERYTHING AT METAME IS DONE IN-HOUSE BY OUR OWN TEAM
We have not, and do not outsource at Metame, everything we do has is built by a very lean team.
We do this because firstly it saves on outgoing costs which means we do not burn through the treasury/runway, while also showing our skills as a team that we can deliver ourselves.
9) FREE MERCH
Rather than charging $100-150 a hoodie. We are giving away our hoodies for FREE to loyal holders. These hoodies have been in the making for 6 months and are extremely high quality.
Again, we do not believe in taking money from holders, especially when its our very first merch drop.
10) THE FUTURE
Regardless of NFT market conditions - we're here building every single day.
Our team have been working tirelessly since mint, and we are extremely excited to show the community and ecosystem what we've been working on with @unruggable_io.
This will be our entry to the Solana @ColosseumOrg hackathon.
Rugs were already a huge issue, but now with being in a bull market, rugs, wallet draining, phishing links and scams are increasing every day within the ecosystem, and Unruggable is a product designed to protect users from that.
Both with soft and hard wallet versions, with Unruggable you'll be able to fully protect and own your Crypto and NFT assets. You will literally become, Unruggable.
Not only is it a great and relevant product, we've had @artofapes94 cooking some more of the cleanest and highest quality art we've ever made.
If you thought the Metame collection was good, just wait until you see Unruggable.
Oh, and its FREE for EVERY single Metame holder.
We'll be releasing more details on Unruggable very, very soon. Stay tuned.
In addition to Unruggable, we've also been spending the last couple of months working on our new on chain HD standard.
Currently, marketplaces are taking the image directly from on-chain, leading to the slight decrease in quality when viewing the collection on NFT marketplaces.
With our new token standard, our images will now be fully HD, AND on-chain.
More details soon.
Thank you again for the support.
We're going to get back to cooking.
Step by step until we're undeniable.
GM Metame community! 🎴🫡
We hope you’ve had a good month and that the JUP airdrop was good for you - if not, there’s always next years Jupuary!
Here's an update on what we've been working on.
1) METAME TRAITS + GALLERY 🎨
Many members of the community have asked for traits and HD images, so, we've updated our website with a HD gallery of the full 1500 Metame collection along with their traits!
We're in contact with marketplaces to update the collection to reflect the traits, along with listings having an HD image option, as currently they're using the on-chain image, which is the reason for the decrease in quality when you view the Metame collection on a marketplace.
This will allow users to switch between the image taken directly from on-chain and an off-chain HD image. This is similar to what marketplaces have for BTC @DeGodsNFT, and other inscriptions on SOL.
In addition, we've also added the Metame 'Graveyard' to our website on the gallery tab. There are only 1500 Metames', but as some of you may already know, our original supply was supposed to be 5000. We had 3500 un-minted Metame's who didn't make it, RIP.
We didn't want these to go to waste as we worked on the art for 18 months, so we thought we'd at least make a gallery where people can view them to see the time, effort and quality that went into making the collection.
Many great characters unfortunately didn't make the cut, have a look through the graveyard and let us know which ones you like best!
Available on our website: https://t.co/dNyXfcbReG
2) HOODIES 👀
100 Metame hoodies are currently in production!
Many of you may have seen the hoodies we've been working on with Q Studio! We're super excited with how they've come out and can't wait to see people wearing them. We've been working on them for a number of months due to the detail of the embroidery and we've also been working with them on another clothing item.
As the hoodies will be our first merch drop, and it is the first time working with QStudio who will handle production and logistics, we have decided to give away the hoodies for FREE to loyal holders.
The team will keep 20 to distribute as we see fit, and the other 80 will be awarded to holders via a points system. There will be a points leaderboard on the website when it goes live, and a specific announcement and reminders at least a week before the points system goes live so do not stress.
3) METAME SWAP 🎴➡️🎴
Metame Swap is also in live alpha.
This is a swapping tool where you can swap your Metame for any other Metame present in the pool.
There is a 0.01 fee for swapping, and the fees acrued will be used to acquire more Metame’s to add to the pool by purchasing them on the open market.
Currently there are 13 Metames in the pool available to be swapped for, when we move out of alpha this number will increase to 2% of the total supply (30).
The available Metame's for swapping perpetually update as people swap their Metame’s and with usage the number of Metame’s available will only increase.
Depending on feedback from the community, we will determine how Swap will evolve - any suggestions welcome 🙂
Available on our website: https://t.co/dNyXfcbReG
4) CARD CRUSH 🎴
We released our xNFT game, Card Crush, on Backpack in January and has been downloaded over 200 times.
A DApp for Card Crush is nearly ready that will be playable on @solanamobile.
Development has finished and the app has been tested on a Saga - the only thing left is to ship it to the DApp store.
We are running into some errors in shipping to the DApp store but the Saga team has provided assistance and we are confident it will be resolved in the coming days.
For Metame holders, Card Crush is available via @Backpack xNFT (https://t.co/tbjRt5gcef) and will be cross platform in the coming weeks (Website/Mobile/DApp store).
Once Card Crush is available cross platform, prizes will be distributed to the leaderboard, and Season 1 of Card Crush will start with updated mechanics and a new prize pool!
5) LOCK YOUR METAME 🔒🎒
If you haven't seen already, @Backpack have now enabled Metame holders' to 'Lock' their Metame.
This locks your Metame NFT in wallet so that it will not let you sign a TX that moves the NFT - protecting you from drainers.
Lock your Metame NFT's by downloading Backpack wallet here: https://t.co/mwHAYo2qyY
Transfer your Metame NFT to the new Backpack wallet if you have not done so already, click on 'collectibles' within the wallet, click on your Metame, and then toggle the 'Lock your collection' button.
We've seen a number of wallet drains within our community and within the Crypto/NFT ecosystem in general and we cannot emphasise how important security and protecting your assets are in times like these. One simple miss-click can potentially ruin everything you've worked for.
Security and securing your assets are incredibly important to us at Metame. With the 'bull market' coming back, we're seeing an increasing number of scams, phishing links and wallet drains.
We're even seeing wallet drains without even clicking on a link. @bill_papas_12 has been working on a security product that is currently in 'MVP' stage. This will be a physical product, with a twist, which you'll see in the future.
We don't want to give too much away, but we're extremely excited to be working on it. Let's just say, it really relevant with the above about keeping your assets safe.
And just so you all know, all Metame holders will get it for FREE. Non Metame holders will have to pay.
We'll be releasing more information and communicating about this product throughout this month. We just want to be a bit further down the road with everything before we announce anything publicly.
As we always say, thank you for your support. Your support is ALWAYS appreciated by the team. We read every Discord message and always listen to feedback and any comments you have.
Build step by step 🫡
check out a speed run off booting up @metamenft card crush DApp on a @solanamobile dev unit....
Only thing left now is publishing and it will be available in the DApp store for all saga owners
It's a new year, which means it's time for new goals for Metame.
Firstly, happy new year to the community! We hope you all managed to touch some grass and spend time with your family over the Christmas period.
We go into 2024 with the entire Metame collection being fully on-chain with our own custom on-chain contract standard. The total cost to inscribe the full collection was 500 SOL, which we covered from the team treasury.
This cost was well worth it for everything that on chain offers. Thank you all for making history with us.
You may have noticed that the quality of the images on the marketplaces/wallets has decreased. This is because the NFTs and marketplaces are now using the images stored directly on-chain. What do we mean by this?
Well, for example - if you go to BTC Degods on Magic Eden, you can see the quality is extremely high.
However, these images are off-chain images, in reality the true on-chain quality of the BTC degods is extremely pixelated. We're talking with marketplaces to add a disclaimer to let people know that each Metame is dispalying the image direct from on-chain.
Because marketplaces are taking a direct image on-chain, if we were to have inscribed each Metame at a much lower file size then the image would be extremely pixelated and we do not believe in taking off-chain images for marketplaces.
Now, moving forward - over the Christmas period, the team have been working non-stop since shipping on-chain and have some products to release in January. There are also a number of other products we're still ideating on and will be releasing/discussing as they take shape.
For now we're excited to be releasing the below products:
Metame swap - A pool of Metame’s with which holders can swap any Metame for one in the pool. Potential to expand to be available for more collections or P2P - i.e. allowing for user to user swaps. Also will lock up 2% of the supply, with swap fees being used to grow the pool of Metame’s available for the swap.
Card Crush - xNFT game in the style of Candy Crush utilising POW, with a global leaderboard where the best score wins a daily prize pool. Only Possible on Solana. Potential to also become a Saga App + integrate Memecoin leaderboards
We are also considering the concept of 'MVP Monday' and want to hear your opinions/suggestions. This would be an extensive live stream every Monday where an 'MVP' (beta version) of a product/utility that the community has suggested/decided gets built.
We want to build a long term, sustainable future for Metame, and everything we do and release has to meet this requirement. We understand we may not be the most 'active' team, however we can assure you that we are working every single day.
We want to thank the community for the support and we cannot wait to see what 2024 will bring.
Building step by step until we're undeniable.
THANK YOU to everyone that showed up to inscribe their Metame on-chain and joined us in making history.
This is a huge milestone for the team and community.
The turnout was amazing, the feedback has been great and we are so glad the Metame community enjoyed the on-chain experience!
Due to the congestion on Solana yesterday, storing the full collection on-chain is still ongoing, with over 600 Metames now being fully on chain. The whole collection should be on-chain by midnight tomorrow.
Metame is a different type of project to what is typically on SOL. We're new and do things differently, which takes some getting used to.
We hope that we've shown our capabilities as a team and the we are more than excited to build more beyond on-chain.
This is just the start of something special.
As we always say - step by step, one day at a time.
Excited for the future of Metame.
Thank you to everyone that showed up to our very first 'Collectors Club' yesterday in our Discord! ⛓️
We hope you enjoyed @bill_papas_12 talk on all things Metame on-chain and answering questions the community had, and to understand the teams philosophy in more detail.
The reception for it has been great - we had a great turn out and it was amazing to finally meet some our community.
But most importantly, we finally revealed how to pronounce Metame properly 💀
Now, we understand that not everyone could make it yesterday.
Well, not to worry! We have the recording for the event which will be posted soon, so you won't miss the alpha.
As we always say.
Step by step. One day at a time.
🫡
Join us in the Metame Discord on Tues Dec 5th, 6pm UTC for the very first 'Collectors Club'.
Founder, @bill_papas_12 will be spilling the alpha on all things Metame on-chain.
And who knows, maybe even some alpha about our future plans.
Mark your calendars! 🎴
See you there! ⛓️
We want to build a new standard on Solana, a standard of true holder ownership, decentralisation and immutability.
How many times have we wrongly heard that Solana is a ‘centralised’ chain?
That’s why we’re building on-chain, on Solana.
This is going to be a long one, so get your "I ain't reading all that, I'm happy for you, or sorry that happened" memes ready.
🎴👇
What are people saying about NFTs?
We very recently saw Elon Musk on the Joe Rogan podcast saying "The funny thing is the NFT is not even on the blockchain—it’s just a URL to the JPEG. You should at least encode the JPEG on the blockchain"
Or articles with the title: “Why Would Anyone Buy NFT – A Link To A JPEG File?”
Well, what do they mean by this?
Currently, on Solana, your NFT is essentially just a link pointing to a JPEG on a server. The link which is stored on-chain points to a file that contains the information about your NFT, like the attributes, description and the link to the actual image.
The server that hosts this file and the images can be operated/paid for by the team (e.g Mad Lads, Degods), or it can be some form of decentralised storage (IPFS/ARWeave/Shadow Drive).
If the servers hosting the images stop working, or any of the decentralised storage service providers stop operating - the images and information for most NFTs would be unavailable. It is important to note that the name (i.e Metame #1381) and the creators of the NFT are stored on chain.
This is why Ordinals on Bitcoin are so important, as they are not stored on an external server but stored on-chain, inheriting the same level of decentralisation and immutability as Bitcoin - meaning you truly own your NFT, just like you own your bitcoin.
Thats why if you hear the "all you own is a link to an image somewhere" FUD regarding NFTs, well, they're kinda right, at least currently on Solana.
We want to set a new standard on Solana, and that is on-chain.
What other projects are on-chain?
The biggest and most obvious one is CryptoPunks on Ethereum. Originally Punks were all in one giant image file when they launched back in 2017 and in August 2021, a new ETH contract was launched storing all CryptoPunks on-chain as SVG files. This made CryptoPunks fully decentralized and allowed holders to truly own their NFTs.
Blockrons - the first on-chain NFT collection on Solana with 100 supply.
Effectively these NFTs inherit the same level of decentralisation and immutability as the base chain - as long as the EVM continues to operate these NFTs will always exist.
Similarly with Ordinals - as long as Bitcoin continues working they will always be available. This is because the images are actually part of the chain, and thus also stored on every validator of that chain.
Contrast this to the majority of NFTs that simply point to an image stored on a server as explained above, and the benefit of having your NFT stored on chain becomes clear.
What does this mean for Metame?
- First on-chain generative project on Solana at scale
- Metame will become a truly decentralised project on Solana
- You will truly own your NFT
- Once on-chain, your NFT can and will never be changed
- Setting a new standard for Solana that other projects can adopt
What are the costs of putting NFTs (Digital collectibles) on-chain on Solana?
Inscribing (putting data on-chain) costs depend on the file size. It can cost as little as 0.07 SOL to inscribe for a 10kb file.
However, as you see on Ordinals, a lower file size usually leads to reduced image quality. We spent 18 months creating the artwork for Metame, and we want to make sure it retains that quality.
To keep the quality and inscribe a Metame on Solana, it would cost around 0.5 SOL per digital collectible. Meaning around 750 SOL (over $36,000 at current SOL prices) to inscribe the entire 1500 collection.
We will NOT be charging holders. The cost will be covered by the team. We promised fully on-chain and immutable digital collectibles, and thats exactly what we're delivering.
Why does it take long to build?
In order to inscribe the full collection on chain, three distinct steps are required:
1 - PreProcessing - taking the image and metadata and preparing it to be stored on chain
2 - Inscribing - developing the storage smart contract and its implementation and then storing the prepared files on chain
3 - PostProcessing - the code that reads the data stored on chain and then reconstructs the Image and metadata
For preprocessing we follow the same methodology as Ordinals, encoding the images into MIME base64 format.
This format is widely used across the internet, and is well documented. Prior to the encoding, after extensively testing multiple different image formats (png, jpg, svg etc..) the choice to use webp encoding was made.
WebP is an image format developed by Google that is specifically designed to retain the highest quality possible whilst minimising file size.
A custom quality algorithm was developed to ensure each Metame retains the highest quality possible, whilst ensuring consistent file-sizes and staying below the storage limit.
Moving on to inscribing, the smart contract manages writing and storing the data to Solana, creating an individual account for each NFT, and in that account then stores the processed image.
The smart contract is deployed and is currently being finalised, and second opinions from other experienced developers are being sought to ensure that our approach makes sense and is extensible.
We have taken extra care to make sure that the contract stores the data in a clear and deterministic fashion for each NFT (utilising PDAs), whilst also not breaking metaplex standard compatibility so the collection retains its composability with all existing NFT protocols (marketplaces/lending etc..).
Once the contract is finalised, it will be deployed from the update authority of the collection. Inscription of the full collection will then be carried out, and then the contract will be marked immutable so it can never be altered.
Once everything is inscribed, it is important to also create the interfaces for people to easily understand, access and verify the inscribed on chain content. The next step is to provide resources, code, documentation and support for further adoption.
We are extremely excited to make history with all of you.
We are Metame.
Card-holder mint window has now closed.
Thank you to all Card-holders that minted.
The final supply is 1500.
We've listened to feedback from the community, and it's clear that we have lacked in communication.
We'll be providing an in-depth update for holders shortly.
Card-holders.
The new mint time is now 8pm UTC.
Card-holders will still have a 24 hour guaranteed mint window.
We want to ensure that our mint experience is as smooth as possible, and we just need a little bit more time.
This ones on us, we understand your time is valuable and would like to apologise for the delay.
