It has been heartbreaking for us to learn about the story of Mirabel, who was sexually assaulted in her home. But, even more disturbing has been her perpetrators alleged messages, and public response; comments on TikTok that mock her trauma and place the burden of proof on her🧵
Law enforcement agencies must not let these cases fade into silence. Investigations must be swift, thorough, and survivor-centered, and perpetrators must be prosecuted to the full extent of the law.

Today, we honour the courage that achieved a Locus Classicus.
Justice must be more than words on paper, it must be felt, lived and implemented.
They were awarded ₦6 million each in damages amongst other prayers, but Nigeria is yet to enforce that judgement.
And that’s the harsh reality of many human rights victories: recognition without reparation.
