There are too many barriers to renting spaces in City-run buildings, that we have a right to.

[Azarin So @dngosa]

@MathieuFleury @JimWatsonOttawa @rawlsonking
@ottawacity @ottawarec rental rates create #barriers 4 many groups, including those trying 2 promote much needed #multicultural programs. If u find $ somehow, u have 2 deal w/ unreliable online forms & unresponsive staff. Unacceptable

[Azarin So @dngosa]

@MathieuFleury @JimWatsonOttawa @rawlsonking @ottawacity @OTTAWAREC 5of6
In terms of booking spaces, the online form does not always work according to a City employee.  Getting a hold of supervisors, who are the gatekeepers to these spaces, is impossible and front desk staff cannot approve rentals, despite aiming to be helpful.

[Azarin So @dngosa]

@MathieuFleury @JimWatsonOttawa @rawlsonking @ottawacity @OTTAWAREC 4of6
This is unsustainable for folks trying to start community groups and disseminate different arts, support systems and other community-focused events.

[Azarin So @dngosa]

@MathieuFleury @JimWatsonOttawa @rawlsonking @ottawacity @OTTAWAREC 3of6
The scale system that offers lower rates for free happenings, just perpetuates that artists, facilitators, community members should work for free and create free programming for the City.

[Azarin So @dngosa]

@MathieuFleury @JimWatsonOttawa @rawlsonking @ottawacity @OTTAWAREC 2of6
Rental rates have doubled in some cases in the last year pushing out groups who try to just cover their expenses, even those with pay-what-can systems or who offer lower rates for under-employed folks for programs.

[Azarin So @dngosa]

@MathieuFleury @JimWatsonOttawa @rawlsonking @ottawacity @OTTAWAREC 1of6
Would love to! Community centres are trusted spaces meant to be used by the community. When the rental rates become inaccessible for community groups, how are they expected to access them?
