JUST IN: In a historic move, the House of Representatives approved House Bill 11376, which seeks a P200 legislated wage hike for private sector workers, with 171 lawmakers voting in favor and only one against. This marks the first congressional wage hike in 36 years.
The measure will soon undergo bicameral deliberations with the Senate, which passed a separate bill proposing a P100 increase. Lawmakers from both chambers will need to come up with a final rate.
Minimum wage workers in Metro Manila earn P645 a day, while those in other regions earn much less. The estimated family living wage is P1,200 a day. | via @domnqeflores
