I grew up in a nation divided by a wall, one that symbolized the profound ideological divide of our time. Having been fortunate to live in West Germany, I often visited the East, where I witnessed firsthand the devastating consequences of communism. The roads were in disrepair, the people impoverished and oppressed, and grocery stores barren. There was a palpable sense of hopelessness. I can think of nothing more reprehensible than the glorification of communism or the admiration of leaders like Putin. Such systems and figures should never be celebrated.
