1. White captures the black knight at f8, and checks the black king in the process Qxf8. Black must accept the queen sacrifice by capturing the white queen with his rook Rxf8

2. Yet again, white sacrifices another piece. This time his rook by capturing the black pawn at h7 and checking the black king again Rxh7. Black has only one permissible move after this, which is to capture the white's rook with his king Kxh7

3. White mobilizes his last remaining free major piece- the rook at d1- to h1, checking the black king the third time. Black's king has no where to escape the 5 available squares are either threatened or occupied by his own piece. Initially, black can move his bishop to h3 to try and buy time, but after white plays Rxh3, it's a check mate.
