Outstanding recruitment effort - a real demonstration of the clinical community coming together to further our scientific understanding @qeh_research@eoeccn
I tend to get over-excited about science but I can't remember having my breath taken away like it was when @PeterHorby and @MartinLandray told the steering committee this result: dexamethasone substantially reduces mortality in severe COVID-19. 1/n
This is Graham who until recently was head of exams @RCoANews@FICMNews@FacultyPainMed He retired in Dec. 19 & is a legend to all @35 Red Lion Square. He also served with distinction as CPO in @RoyalNavy most notably on HMS Newcastle. Thank you Graham
East of Eng: @ICNARC analysis of ICU outcomes of patients with #COVID who have been discharged or died in EoE (n=961) shows that mortality is 41.2% to (nat mort is 41.6%), EoE mort ranks 8th out of 18 Critical Care Networks in Eng @eoeccn@eoesenate@COVID19actuary@ICS_updates
Our outstanding Critical Care team received this compliment recognising the hard work they put in every day.
If you have recently been an inpatient with us you can complete your FFT online here: https://t.co/g8gOhYb6ZB
This graph is amazing. It shows that measuring #SARSCoV2 levels in municipal sewage almost perfectly predicts forthcoming #COVID19 cases with a full week's notice (R=0.994). It's one of several discoveries in this new study from @Yale: https://t.co/hZVdXebx2D. C-19 is #InThePoop
Our urgent #fundraising appeal is helping us expand our support to the #intensivecare community throughout and beyond #COVID19 with:
▶️more funding for research
️more Wellbeing & mental health
▶️more education
▶️patient & relative support

What are the chances of recruiting a new intensivist in the midst of the pandemic? But we did! Today we successfully appointed another great addition for ITU at @TeamQEH@peterjyoung101@doc_blunt
52 Coronavirus survivors have been cared for at QEH and been well enough to leave hospital. We sent our first Intensive Care Unit patient home today fit & well - great news. Just proves there is light at the end of the tunnel #TeamQEH#COVID19@EDP24 @KLFM967 @TheLynnNews
Coagulopathy in COVID @isth webinar @MarcelLevi and @bhwords
My take home messages:
- inflammation correlates with coagulopathy
-> inflammation & coagulopathy correlate with survival
Looks a bit like DIC & microangiopathy, but DOESN’T reach DIC diagnostic criteria @isth
In @HouseofCommons today I spoke about my meeting with @CShawQEH and @TeamQEH on #coronavirus response - paid tribute to staff and pressed on access to PPE and ventilators.
