Did you know the Amish also hunt deer? Did you know the old order Amish also purchased crossbows and hunting rifles, even though they didn’t have a Social Security number? My daddy took me with him in 1993 to purchase a 12 gage shotgun from Kmart, and when he filled out the paperwork, they asked him for the religious exemption code that ties him to the Amish church, and his address and name, then when the background check came back is was “approved”.  he also had to list on the paperwork that he was in fact conservative Old-Order-Amish and exempt from SSN for religious reasons. Then when we went hunting, we were exempt from wearing the color orange, because orange was too worldly and considered a different belief, so when the game warden gave us a ticket for violating the hunting laws, it was always thrown out of court by the judge because we were exempt from wearing hunters orange since it was against our religion. Hunters orange for safety was never allowed, but all modern day firearms and bows were allowed because it was an item considered to be used to survive and live off of the land. It is amazing what you can get by with when you use freedom of religion exemptions under the constitution.
