State rejects compensation to Vishnu Tiwari on 'Humanitarian grounds'. In a reply to National Human Rights Commission, the UP govt says spending 20 years in jail in a false case of the SC-ST act was not the case for Human rights violations.

While I posed this question in Parliament, well before the grisly rape and murder of a young woman doctor at Calcutta’s RG Kar Medical College, it is shocking that nowhere in its answer does the Government of India take into account the fact that, according to the Indian Medical Association, a staggering 75% of doctors in India are subjected to violence. On the one hand, GoI says that the “newly enacted BNS and BNSS have adequate provisions to protect medical professionals against violence”. On the other, it says “There are no provisions to provide financial/legal support to medical professionals who become victims of violence while performing their duties.” Such callousness is deplorable.
Worse still is the fact that nowhere in this answer does GoI indicate an intention to implement — as medical professionals protesting against the RG Kar rape and murder have been demanding — the Healthcare Service Personnel and Clinical Establishments (Prohibition of Violence and Damage to Property) Bill, 2019. Five years after it first circulated this Bill, GoI remains reluctant to introduce it in Parliament; it was to meet this vital requirement that I introduced a Private Member’s Bill in the Lok Sabha last year, seeking to safeguard our medical professionals from the wanton violence that has tragically begun defining their lives. The law cannot wait any longer!
#WATCH | Delhi: Indian Medical Association National President Dr Asokan says, "... Now its for the government to respond. They will have the political will to respond now. Because what we have asked for is not something beyond them. We are asking for a very fundamental right, the right to life... We will be writing to the PM. The time is ripe for his intervention... Certainly, that (PM Modi mentioning women's safety in his August 15 speech) is one aspect that shows that he is concerned. It will be very appropriate to write to the prime minister. IMA will be doing that..."
#WATCH | Mumbai, Maharashtra: On doctors' nationwide strike against Kolkata's RG Kar Hospital rape-murder case, a relative of a patient at Sion Hospital says, "Our patient is in ICU. The services are proper. We don't have any problem. But I think that what happened in Kolkata is wrong. Those who have done wrong should be punished... Doctors are serving the people selflessly. The government and the people should support them... The services (at the hospital) are running smoothly..."

Yes we need to evolve into a society where we ALL feel equally safe. But that is going to take decades. It’s going to hopefully happen with sensitizing and empowering our sons and daughters. The next generations will be better. We will get there. Eventually. But what in the interim ? Right now justice would be to put a hard stop to such atrocities. And the only way to do that is a punishment so harsh that it scares the living daylights out of such perpetrators. That’s what we need. Perhaps ?
I stand with the victim's family in seeking justice for their daughter and I stand with all the Doctors that were attacked last night.
This is what you get for devoting your life to this https://t.co/SpORMu9Iie're assaulted, raped, murdered and then the state owned system is trying to suppress our voice, the citizens have gone blind, the political vultures are trying to feed on the corpse of the deceased.
