Out-SMART your slightly lazy, distractible self—not with brute suppression, but with clever redesign, powered by a Dennettian intuition pump.
Your future self isn’t wiser by nature. It’s wiser because you’ve equipped it—through culture, language, and cognition—with tools to manage the inner zoo of your competing tendencies.
Episodic future thinking is one such tool: an evolved competence for simulating consequence, allowing today’s self to strike a deal with selves not yet born. It’s not foresight by fiat—it’s architecture. You scaffold wisdom into the now.
As Hilary Putnam put it, “Free will is constrained by inventions not of our makings.” But that’s precisely the point. We construct freedom not by transcending constraints, but by recruiting them—reminders, rituals, calendars, commitments—as prosthetics of agency.
So don’t just resist your urges. Outsmart them. Outsource them. Design your freedom.
A basic way to avoid bad habits is to imagine how you’ll feel afterward.
It’s called episodic future thinking. Previewing the unwanted consequences of procrastinating, overeating, and doomscrolling can motivate better choices.
Your future self is wiser than your present self.
You eat bread, cheese, and pasta every day in Europe and feel alive.
In America, the same food makes you sick. And no one talks about why.
Here are 11 American foods banned in other countries:🧵
1. Bread (made with Azodicarbonamide)
@MatrixMysteries Alright bread “nazi”-onale, challenge for you: list the best breads OUTside of Europa!
I’ll lead by example: “Munich Rye Sourdough” (preservatives free) in Cloverdale, & Lac La Hache -out of Vancouver, BC, Canada, Turtle Island.

@ChrisLynnHedges 🔥 Apoplectic Genocide
Day of Rage, Day of Ruin.
Cities collapse like lungs.
Children are statistics.
And silence — our complicity.
Gaza screams.
Bethlehem bleeds.
And no one says Yeshua is here.

“Auschwitz.” (Oświęcim – Poli…)

Dear @KahlonRav, despite higher density RT zones (5 & 10) in Vancouver being deemed as 'not restricted,' our ability to build new multifamily homes within these zones remains blocked. This inconsistency is hindering implementation of SSMUH proposals fairly in such zones.
Q: Is RT-5 considered a restricted zone?
A: No it is not. The test was "is multi family allowed", which RT-5 allows as a character conversion. This is a legal question from the Province, not about "fixing everything". Also some areas that are in TOD areas are not being amended.
@CAHiggins@MarshallLeslie Can you build a new multiplex in RT-5 or RT-10? No. Only an existing character conversion. So how is this considered as “not” restricted?
This genocide is changing history.
Longstanding narratives are being laid to rest, buried in the rubble of Gaza.
