Parents, you deserve a break – Michelle’s got storytime handled every Monday. She’s one of the best, I promise. (And I confess it makes me a little nostalgic.)
This is the face of someone who just spent 9 hours in personal protective equipment moving critically ill Covid19 patients around London.
I feel broken - and we are only at the start. I am begging people, please please do social distancing and self isolation #covid19
So many unknowns right now. I do know this:
I called every S in my class this week, Ss were THRILLED to hear from me, parents too.
Don’t fear reaching out to Ss while you wait to hear what’s next. Make that connection now. They need us now. Be brave, follow your heart. ❤️
Its important to acknowledge during unprecedented times - its scary, its ok to not have all the answers or know the right direction. We will make mistakes but we will be there, present to lift one another up, take care of each other during the tough times not just the good times!
TO ALL THE PRINCIPALS AND SUPERINTENDENTS OUT THERE....I salute you on your leadership during these unusual times. Graduate school could have never prepared you for a crisis of this magnitude....but you're getting it done!
Superintendents:
We know your jobs are hard.
We know u are always focused on what’s best for kids.
I’m so proud of the decisions that are not only focused on kids, but communities, your staffs, & even those who haven’t been in a school in decades.
Thank you. You are appreciated
Trauma is not something experienced just by children. So, be kind, patient, and supportive of your staff. colleagues, and even your admin because you never know what others may be going through. We need to check in on each other.
This only can happen in an effective, strong Culture of Safety. Kudos for your investment in your classroom community - it’ll pay off for sure!

“When you pass through the waters, I will be with you; and through the rivers, they shall not overwhelm you; when you walk through fire you shall not be burned, and the flame shall not consume you.”
Isaiah 43:2 ESV
Leaders, here are 5 main factors that cause Burnout:
1.Unfair treatment at work
2.Unmanageable workload
3. Lack of role clarity
4. Lack of communication & support
5. Unreasonable time pressure
Keep these in mind as you focus on well being, morale, & satisfaction of your staff
I love the fact that, no matter how bad our “to do list” gets screwed up, no matter how many times the copier breaks, no matter how bad our lesson bombs… we always have the ability to be nice to kids… to make them smile. I love that.
It’s impossible to raise standards, expectations, or achievement without first utilizing teachers strengths & raising morale. These have to be the priority. They drive success by increasing productivity, engagement, attention to detail and lowers absenteeism and turnover. 1/2
