@marklewismd They do work, even in the ICU. Therapy dogs are common in many hospitals. But we still donโt have good quality evidence about the risks for hoomans and dogs to be in the hospital environment. https://t.co/KM3yZUQk1k

Hot off the press, the ANZICS Guidelines on Patient and Family Engagement in Critical Care Research and Registries launched at the Noosa CTG conference yesterday. We hope the information presented in these guidelines will help clinicians, researchers, and educators in their approach to patient and family engagement. We thank the many people who contributed to delivering these guidelines for our binational community.
Here is a potential consumer quote from the guidelines:
โTo all researchers, I extend this challenge: be as brave and vulnerable in your engagement as those who survive a critical care experience. We entrust you with our stories and our scars. Your task is to meet that courage with humility, curiosity, and commitment. If we do so together, research will not only generate knowledge - it will foster trust, equity, and healing.โย Belinda MacLeod-Smith (ICU caregiver).

@charlot_summers Amazing work! Thank you for looking after ICU staff. Do you think that the intervention purely alleviates the psychological trauma from COVID (lockdowns, isolation, patients suffering without families, etc.) or is there a role for this in your experience in the current times?

Below โIn-bed cycling plus rehabilitation significantly reduced ICU and hospital length of stay, mechanical ventilation duration and improved functional status compared to rehabilitation. Further research is needed to analyse long-term effects and standardise interventions.โ
