🇦🇺 An Iraqi refugee avoided jail after pleading guilty to child sex offences involving a 14-year-old girl in Toowoomba.

The court heard he contacted the schoolgirl on Snapchat, drove her to a remote lookout and sexually assaulted her.

He received a 12-month sentence suspended for two years after the judge cited “exceptional circumstances,” including visa issues, time already spent in custody and no prior criminal history.

Because the sentence was under one year, his visa will not be automatically cancelled.
