More than a decade ago, my wife and I visited Switzerland for our honeymoon. On the way back after visiting a Cheese factory, we made a mistake and took the train that was heading in the opposite direction to our destination.
The train was completely empty except one lady sitting in a corner. We were confused about what to do next. She didn't speak English but figured that we were in a spot of bother and immediately pressed a button that ensured that the train stops at the next station, which was a small station in the middle of the countryside of Switzerland. She gestured that we could walk our way back from there to the previous station.
Our walk back was through a small hill in the countryside. Everyrhing was lush green with houses like these along the way. It began to drizzle while we were walking back and we had to wait near one of the houses for the passing shower.
It was a 25-30 minute walk and we eventually returned to our original train station but I still remember almost everything throughout that walk like it was yesterday.
It may sound a bit clichéd but Switzerland truly is like heaven on earth.
More than 99% mobile phones used in India are now manufactured in India (not just assembled).
From importing most of our mobile phones on 2014 to being able to export them in 2026 is a truly incredible journey.
A big politician each from the 15 biggest political parties in our country should assemble across a table and discuss their party's vision for reservations and related issues over the next few decades, and also answer if they support the idea of private sector reservations.
The general category in India is sandwiched between the incumbent government that cracks down on its peaceful protest within a few hours and an opposition led by a leader who will surely introduce reservations even in the private sector if he comes to power.
If the general category protesters genuinely care about their future and the future of their kids, they will continue to do everything to demand better from the incumbent government but ensure they do not do anything that increases the likelihood of handing over power to the opposition whose leader has made it abundantly clear that there will be reservations even in the private sector if they come to power.
In 2014, 26% mobile phones sold in India were made in India.
In 2026, more than 99% mobile phones sold in India are made in India.
A phenomenal journey.
startup idea: build a jantar mantar like space in every state capital. provide end to end protest solutions. to attract more gen z protesters, name it zantar mantar.
Adulting is a journey that begins with you in your late teens playing cricket when a seemingly tired middle-aged man who is returning home from work asks you if he can bat a few balls and ends when you become that seemingly tired middle-aged man who wants to bat a few balls.
All our political parties work on the emotive issue and narrative of kuch toh khatre mey hai.
The only thing that changes from party to party or time to time is kya khatre mey hai?
Majority khatre mey hai
Minority khatre mey hai
Democracy khatre mey hai
Bhasha khatre mey hai
Desh khatre mey hai
Secularism khatre mey hai
The list is endless.
@nikster007 Yes, agree, although clamping down on wrong side driving comes under the Traffic Police dept but the root cause of reckless driving on our roads is the manner in which RTO hands out licenses.
Maybe just maybe once the RTO in Mumbai is done with teaching Marathi to taxi/auto drivers, they can move to "less important" issues like the rampant corruption in their department where a license is given or renewed without a proper driving test, which has ultimately led to the sad state of affairs on our roads.
Mumbai RTO flying squads takes action against taxi drivers outside Dadar Railway Station, serving them show-cause notices and giving them one month to learn Marathi and explain why further action should not be initiated. Marathi has been made mandatory for auto-rickshaw and taxi drivers from 18 August.

The biggest blessing in Mumbai is if your home to work distance is less than 20-30 minutes (yes, we measure distance in time) and involves no local train commute.
Met a taxi driver who is in his 70s who's been driving in Mumbai for 30+ yrs.
He waited in queue for hours at the RTO on multiple occasions & completed his basic Marathi course.
Never underestimate the resilience of people who can drive 12 hrs/day in Mumbai's heat and traffic.
