"HIV doesn't check your passport."
Scientists say denying HIV treatment to migrants doesn't only put them at risk — it can make it harder to control HIV for everyone in South Africa.

Update on the Ebola outbreak caused by the Bundibugyo virus
As of 25 June 2026, a total of 1,176 confirmed cases, including 306 deaths, have been reported across three countries: the Democratic Republic of the Congo, Uganda, and France.
In an age where information is just a click away, are young people truly better informed about their health than previous generations? This Youth Month, RHAP asked young people to share their views on whether access to information has translated into better health knowledge and decision-making.
We also asked what gives them hope about South Africa's future. Their responses remind us that despite the challenges, young people continue to believe in a future shaped by informed choices, resilient communities, and the power of the next generation to drive meaningful change.
[OPINION] A statement by a group of public health professionals says communities across South Africa are struggling with unemployment, poor service delivery and feeling abandoned by the institutions meant to serve them.
But the causes lie in state failure, corruption and growing inequality, not foreign nationals.
The group also warns that misinformation about migrants can fuel xenophobia and make it harder for refugees, migrants and even some South Africans who are perceived as "outsiders" to access healthcare.

Speaking during the Health Advocacy Panel Discussion hosted by the Wits School of Public Health, RHAP Director Russell Rensburg reflected on the role of advocacy in advancing health equity and ensuring that healthcare systems respond to the realities faced by underserved communities.
He highlighted the importance of strengthening district health services, noting that "90% of health needs can be met there", and emphasised that meaningful progress requires deliberate choices that place people, dignity and equitable access to healthcare at the centre of decision-making.
Joining fellow panelists from @SECTION27news and TAC, he explored how evidence, partnerships and community voices can help shape a stronger, more responsive health system for all.

[WATCH] A global group of experts and patients has renamed polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) to polyendocrine metabolic ovarian syndrome (PMOS). But why does a name change matter?
Professor Jack Biko a reproductive medicine specialist says the new name is meant to show that this condition can affect many parts of the body, not just the ovaries.
People with PCOS may have a higher risk of diabetes, heart disease, cancer of the womb lining, skin problems and mental health challenges.

Nearly one in four girls in South Africa falls pregnant before the age of 20, with rural provinces like the Eastern Cape, Northern Cape, and Mpumalanga carrying some of the highest adolescent pregnancy rates in the country.
Behind these statistics are deeper failures within the health system: contraceptive stockouts, limited reproductive health information, inaccessible services, and experiences of stigma and poor treatment at healthcare facilities. Many adolescent girls still do not know where to access sexual and reproductive healthcare, while others leave consultations without their questions being properly answered.
For many rural girls, healthcare services remain physically available but practically out of reach. #YouthMonth
