PRESS STATEMENT I, Dr. Mohammad Akib Javid, Joint Secretary, AIMSA and Interns’ Representative, Jammu & Kashmir, would like to place on record the concerns of MBBS and BDS interns regarding the pending stipend revision. On 8 September 2026, following our prolonged peaceful protest and hunger strike, the Government of Jammu & Kashmir gave us a written assurance that the stipend matter would be finalised within 30 days on the basis of the recommendations of the Stipend Enhancement Committee. In view of this assurance, we suspended our agitation and immediately resumed our hospital duties in the larger interest of patient care. Today, 15 days have passed. We are now at Day 15 — 15 days gone, 15 days remaining. We have respected the assurance given to us. We have returned to our duties, continued attending patients and fulfilled our responsibilities as medical interns. However, we are still awaiting the final notification and implementation of the promised stipend revision. Our demand has always been clear: revision of the existing stipend of around ₹12,300 per month to ₹30,000 per month, keeping in view the workload, responsibilities and nature of duties performed by interns. I want to make one thing absolutely clear: Our silence after 8 September should not be mistaken for forgetfulness. We have not forgotten our demand. We are watching. We are waiting. And we are counting every single day. We gave the Government the time it requested because we chose to trust the written commitment. We do not want another confrontation. We do not want hospital services to be disrupted. We want the matter to be resolved through the administrative process and within the timeline committed to us. Therefore, I respectfully appeal to the Hon’ble Chief Minister Omar Abdullah Sahib and the Hon’ble Minister for Health & Medical Education, Ms. Sakina Masood Itoo, to kindly ensure that this matter is taken up on priority and the commitment made to the interns is honoured within the stipulated 30 days. Fifteen days have passed. Fifteen days remain. We sincerely hope that the Government will use this remaining period to bring the matter to its logical conclusion and issue the necessary notification. But let there be no misunderstanding: our demand remains firmly on the table. If the commitment is not fulfilled within the assured timeline, the interns will collectively decide their next course of peaceful and democratic action. We remain hopeful. We remain united. And we remain committed to our legitimate demand. Day 15.
