@ArtemisConsort Exciting. Your thinking has often felt very Christian to me, in a refreshingly authentic way, like someone grasping truth and not merely assenting to dogma.
@Lynx89R From Grok: “Gregory Clark (with co-author Tatsuya Ishii) argues that descendants of Japan’s samurai class show surprisingly high persistence of elite social status in modern Japan, even 140+ years after the 1868 Meiji Restoration abolished their legal privileges.”
@cremieuxrecueil Mightn’t there be perceptible-for-some transient changes to the mucosal surface residue after drinking, without increasing mucus secretion?
@BMcGrewvy Unfortunately she probably hated him, and his interest in stopping her probably increased her determination.
The legal battle also seems to have made her a celebrity of sorts, making it harder to back down.
Ironically, the best thing may have been to ignore her.
@capt_goodfellow@BMcGrewvy I agree with criticism of the state.
I just have trouble feeling very upset when it’s (under the awful circumstances, yes) what she maintained she wanted over 2 years.
When someone commits murder, they are responsible for the act, regardless of adversity. Same for suicide.
@capt_goodfellow@BMcGrewvy Awful things happened to her, but she still had the options that most other people in similar circumstances pursue, but instead chose to end her life.
Quibbles over semantics are beside the point.
@capt_goodfellow@BMcGrewvy I mean she could have gone, “Huh, this seems to be really distressing to my parents. Maybe I’ll hold off on it.”
But she didn’t.
@capt_goodfellow@BMcGrewvy Sure, but she made her own decision to cope with that by ending her own life, as far as I can tell. Nobody seems to have forced her.
