@Jackob138 Yes, I belief that you can go too far in understanding a certain culture. You have to take it slow and not just rush into it because you don't want to do something bad or rude when learning about said culture. #fys05xu

Why was she the only one to not die. I feel like only her not dying seems a little much even though it flows with the book. Usually in books only one or two people survive with the main character to help, so why do you think she was the only one? #fys05xu

One thing that stood out to me in Pumzi was the correlation between the dream suppressants and the mainstream media today. The mainstream media portrays Africa and African culture in a bad way and doesn't show what Africa and its many cultures are really like. #fys05xu

I really enjoyed the personal stories in the Ted Talk. It was really cool to see that her home country inspired her to write the way she writes today even though she grew up writing about Western Civilization. #fys05xu

It amazed me what her roommate thought of her culture. She thought that she didn't know how to use a stove and asked for her "tribal music." Her roommate had a single story of Africa because she had only seen the pictures of Africa with poverty.#fys05xu

I found it interesting that when she was growing up she read foreign books which influenced her to then start writing like white writers. Her pictures all contained drawing of people with blonde hair and blue eyes. She did not realize literature from her country existed. #fys05xu

Reading about Cath and Wren is helpful because is shows a part of the college experience for people. I believe that Rowell's depiction of college is accurate for some people but not all. #fys05xu

In this part of the book, Cath starts to find where she fits in. She starts hanging out with Levi and Nick and once she finds out where she belongs, it becomes easier for her to open up and not be they shy person she used to be. #fys05xu

One person that resonates with me is Wren. She puts herself into the world and tries to make new friends, which I tried to do when I got to school. I wanted to belong and have a good friend group, and that is exactly what Wren did. #fys05xu

Fangirl is a good read so far. It started out very fast, to get information about the characters and setting out of the way, but it is very interesting. Cath is a interesting character and I feel bad for what is happening around her in her life. #fys05xu
