Say what you will about @AOC at the Met Gala but a female politician—all-too-often criticized for her fashion choices in addition to her policy beliefs—showing up to a fashion show shows some real nerve. I love it. Femininity and politics can coexist, guys! #MetGala
I have a student with a severe peanut/cashew allergy. As an educator, I'm required by law to protect that student. No matter I love peanut butter, that it's my religion to eat it daily, I can't have nuts in my classroom. Period.Same with masks--if it protects one child, we do it.
@Edu_Historian @TeacherOnTopic As governor, Chris Christie called NJ public schools “failure factories” the same year they were ranked among the best in the nation.
Absolutely FUMING at the Diocese of Charlotte right now. Too afraid to mention vaccines so you just LET all these unvaccinated people sit around with the old people and children who are unable/unwilling to get vaccinated but still want to attend church?
The Catholic Church has always had problems setting their priorities straight, and this might be the last straw for me. They wonder why young people are leaving in masses. Do better.
@NTampio Interesting thought! Personally I like seeing what academics are reading, but if it’s an entire bookshelf of unread or unloved books, I can see what you mean.
In case it needed to be said: we fight against the education system BECAUSE we believe it’s the cornerstone of democracy. This continuous and evolving fight for a better education system is for the betterment of an essential part of our country that we couldn’t be gladder to have
The article also criticizes educators for being more inclined to tell "students why American institutions are fundamentally corrupt than" teach them that "these institutions are an inheritance to be safeguarded."
I say bravo, educators! Also, democracy is not to be inherited.
America doesn't de-escalate. It normalizes. School shootings were something unthinkable. Now, children prepare for them as part of their curriculum.
What happened yesterday was unthinkable, and now it will be a concern every election. This doesn't go away when Trump does.
@MadisonPayton2 Class discussions about politics lead to questioning the concrete beliefs of parents. Administrations that block such discussions, ESPECIALLY important ones surrounding race and discrimination, only further a cycle of ignorance and damaging traditionalism.
Perhaps the events yesterday in the Senate chamber will be enough for lawmakers to realize how truly insane it is for teenagers to face such real dangers like this.
Last year at school, I had to do both lockdown and active shooter drills. Once, my teachers were told to look around for a heavy object to be used in self-defense. While my gym teacher had a baseball bat, my English teacher was standing by the door, holding a metal stapler.
If every teacher in the US scrapped their curricula & instead spent the remainder of this yr unpacking today, we’d actually get somewhere. F$@k “learning loss”; the current standards won’t develop the critical thinkers we need to fight the ugliness that is our country.
