A distant uncle narrates that the Jangalak area of Panjshir was all communists, and that only ~4 people were not, one of the ~4 was Ahmad Shah Massoud.

I asked, how did communist propaganda reach Panjshir when they didn't have roads and easy access back then? There was no internet or telephones or television?

He said that the people of Jangalak lived in Kabul, and they were influenced there, and they brought that influence back to Panjshir to their relatives when they came for holiday or visits.

He narrated that Ahmad Shah Massoud was recruited by an Ikhwani, and that Ikhwani (I can't recall his name) thought him everything.

Even though he was an Islamist, his excessive love for his relatives and companions made him very lenient towards them.

Abdullah Azzam narrates that Ahmad Shah Massoud was very lenient toward the impious, and that he preferred them by his side rather than pushed to the arms of communists, he argued that if they fight in the ranks of communists against the Mujahideen, then they would become disbelievers, and their faith would be set in this life and the akhira.

He feared hell for his people, and he tried being lenient while giving advice, so to not drive them to the arms of communists through harshness, but that emboldened the impious, to a point that he began his own amr bil maroof to pressure and contain the corruption.

And this relates back to the present, the Taliban is doing exactly what Ahmad Shah Massoud did decades ago, for the same exact reason, to pressure the impious and contain the corruption through Amr bil Maroof, as instructed by the almighty.

The success of the Taliban will be the conclusion of all that struggle and a victory for all the Mujahideen, regardless of past failures, mistakes, or errs, the struggle continued, the strategy evolved, lessons were learned, and wisdom was obtained.

Which side will be heavier?"

And so he told them, "We are fighting them with this phrase: 'There is no God but Allah, and Muhammad (PBUH) is the messenger of Allah'.'"
