I’m an eldest daughter which means I’m automatically irritated by your incompetence because I was never given room or grace to be imcompetent. I won’t be elaborating. The daughters who know get it.
it’s been two years and i still think about the choice to write “i died ON the altar waiting for the proof” rather than AT, because instead of a bride she became a sacrifice
A Gen Z joined the team.
Week one.
During onboarding, the manager said,
“We sometimes stay late during peak periods.”
Gen Z nodded.
Then asked,
“Is that paid… or just expected?”
The room went quiet.
- No attitude.
- No rebellion.
- Just a question.
Later that day, HR mentioned “growth opportunities.”
Gen Z replied,
“Does growth include raises, or just more responsibility?”
Again, silence.
- No laziness.
- No entitlement.
- Just clarity.
That’s when the team realized something.
When people say
“Gen Z is lazy,”
what they really mean is:
Gen Z watched old generation
- skip meals,
- miss birthdays,
- work weekends,
- and burn out
only to be told
“budgets are tight”
and “be grateful you have a job.”
So Gen Z chose differently.
- They don’t romanticize overwork.
- They don’t confuse suffering with ambition.
- They don’t trade health for praise.
They still work hard.
They just refuse to work for nothing.
It’s not laziness.
It’s pattern recognition.
And honestly,
after everything old generation went through…
Can you really blame them?
I wanna marry into a funcional family... when they have cookouts, game nights, holiday dinners and bday parties...I wanna be able to go get breakfast with my mother in law & go shopping with their siblings. I don't want it to be just "US" I want a family that's oriented.
One of my favourite kenyanisms is " sisi wote hapa ni watu wazima". a statement, threat, boundary, warning and a declaration of war. it really cracks me up 😂
Honestly, I want to be outside next year, and I don’t mean clubs and parties. I mean travelling, hiking, picnics, trying new restaurants, stuff like that.
The weird thing about reading so much as a child and gaining a huge vocabulary from that is I can't define a lot of the words I use, I just...know that they would fit correctly in a specific sentence? Does anyone else experience that?
