But let me tell you a little secret, we often violate these restrictions and the patients put much more weight on their legs as their instructed โฆ AND THEY DO JUST FINE! ๐ฑ
This information is not new yet many docs still restrict our patients. Our fixation devices are so much better and we understand the biomechanics much more too.
Baffles me when I get these post-op instructions.

The research backs this up too. Still see way too many protocols that limit patient to NWB or TDWB for 4-6 weeks and only 90 degrees of flexion. Had another doc today recommend that and it drives me crazy!
Trust me, for a typical ACL/meniscus repair, PROM beyond 90 degrees with the patient seated at the edge of the table is much more beneficial to the patient than limiting ROM to 90 degrees for 4-6 weeks. Convince me otherwise
These old school protocols of limited WB and 90 degrees flexion only hurt the patient
