Asked about Posh George, the imprisoned fraudster, Farage points at Louise Haigh and claims that “Burnham is about to put a convicted fraudster into the cabinet.” Moments later, he says that George’s conviction is spent, invoking Christian forgiveness, second chances, loyalty to friends, and even gesturing vaguely at the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act.
His hypocrisy is off the scale. Haigh received a conditional discharge for an offence before she was a politician, no prison sentence, and her minor conviction is long spent. Farage’s attempt to equate the two isn’t just misleading it’s wilfully absurd.

Reform's view is that they should be free to abuse their political opponents in any terms they choose, but their political opponents should not be allowed to respond in kind. And they should just admit it, rather than keep making themselves look ridiculous like this.

Reminder:

To create thousands of fake voters, you'd need to first create thousands of fake social security entries.

And you'd need to create fake residences, where the mail wouldn't go undeliverable.

Then you'd need to create fake identification for these people to show up and vote.

AND

There would be a record of all of these fake voters, with full name, DOB, and address. You'd be able to point to specific entries.

Because whether or not you registered, and whether or not you voted, is a public record.

Think it's worth repeating. Zia Yusuf claimed no state support was being offered to Reform MPs for protection. In reality, Nigel Farage was offered a car, a trained driver, a bodyguard, and security on a similar level to that offered Kemi Badenoch. That's quite the deception.

On the issue of what stirs up hate:

* Reform hosted Lucy Conolly on their main stage at conference

* Senior members of Reform, such as Zia Yusuf, regularly describe their political opponents as "traitors"

* When Keir Starmer's house was firebombed, prominent Reform supporters circulated Russian propaganda minimising, and joking about, the attack

So when it comes to political discourse what are the rules. If jeering at Nigel Farage in the House of Commons chamber crosses a line, what is the line now.

EXCL: George Cottrell was routinely introduced as Nigel Farage’s chief of staff before the 2024 election despite denials he had any official role @BenQuinn75 reveals.

It comes after @Gabriel_Pogrund & co reported that Cottrell had given out a business card with his name on and an official email address for Farage.

Both challenge claims he is purely a personal friend of the Reform UK leader, who therefore didn't need to report the support he had received from him.

Farage is, always has been and always will be the establishment. Like his hero Trump his skill is being able to persuade people he is one of them when in truth he is of money, for money and obsessed with having it. As for being subject to over zealous media I can think of few other senior politicians who have had such an easy ride from our press over the years. Questions unanswered. Scandals ignored. Treated as a jovial commentator. Today was a long desperate whinge by a man being found out and needing to shift the narrative. Classic Trump distraction strategy. Still at least a by election means the people of Clacton might get to see him for once. Will be discussing on @RestIsPolitics with @mehdirhasan out later today
