Columbia students made history today as they established the Gaza Solidarity Encampment, inspired by the 1968 occupation of Hamilton Hall on their campus sparked by the university’s attempts to suppress protests against the affiliation of the university with the Institute for Defense Analyses (IDA), a weapons research think-tank affiliated with the U.S. Department of Defense.

STUDENTS RISE UP AGAINST GENOCIDE

In a moment of extreme urgency, as the United States and the Biden administration continue to fund the brutal Israeli occupation & genocide, students are standing with Palestine. Students today are continuing the legacy of anti-war organizing on campuses, including the powerful movements against the Vietnam War and apartheid South Africa.

THE STUDENT MOVEMENT GROWS!

Today’s action makes clear that the student movement for Palestine and against injustice everywhere will only continue to grow. Administrators’ efforts to suppress campus activism will only be met with more intentional acts of protest.
