Introducing Casita: A content-addressed object store for source code and build artifacts.
It's time to rethink Nix.
It's time to fix packaging in software from where it all begins, in package managers.

@ChiefScientist A mixture of both, made rough drafts and then back and forth with prompts to perfect it.
AI makes it a bit longer, but still nicer to read than my raw stuff
We asked GPT-6 Astra to edit Qwen3.5-0.8B weights to improve math.
It directly changed only 0.016% of weights, fixing 0.8B's reasoning loops & improving math up to 6x and even instruction following 3x, without gradients or training.
We call this Weight-Space Programming: frontier LLMs can now natively read/write neural network weights! 🧵

Open-source "codes of conduct" are cancer and need to be retired; I deeply regret championing them. The inevitable outcome is an unproductive mob controlling projects through intimidation. Given enough time, it pushes away people who would contribute patches. Eventually, all that remains is an unproductive military-police class playing social status games.
All these things that people are admitting are “great for agents” — monorepos, nix, formal methods, rust, linting/behavior tests, and so on — were actually great for developers all along as well. People just didn’t have either the conviction or resources to invest in the beforetimes.
Yesterday France announced tax of €0.055 per GB on internet traffic
Today Germany is considering taxing all AI-generated revenue
You will see European countries keep clawing more and more money from foreign companies as they are slowly running out of money themselves to pay for their pensions and welfare state
Add to this the planned wealth taxes and exit taxes on any European who will try to leave (already active in many EU countries)
Europe is running out of money
Hmm, I'm kinda building a thing for nixpkgs users. To help encourage everyone to contribute, nixpkgs should be filtered by the packages you're using on your machine. Then you get to see which are broken, under-maintained, and can decide to help out. Or not.

*ehm ehm* BIG ANNOUNCEMENTS DAY 📣
two new things cooking in herdr labs 🐏🧪
a brand new herdr-core, and a desktop app built on it. open source.
first, the app: software that fits you. every part of it is a file your agent can change. you just ask.
@BernoulliOther The main one being that it wasn't installable as a crate, you had to use Nix to install it.
It's also much simpler to get the package into all kinds of package managers when it's only one stack.
@henkjan So, you have tool a that upon merge to a certain branch, extracts the changelog from commit message and amends it to correct place in CHANGELOG.md?
