a lot of movies seem terrified of letting a scene exist without a purpose. everything has to reveal character, advance the plot, establish a theme or foreshadow something. sometimes a scene can just be people sitting around talking nonsense. cinema could use more useless moments
It’s more important than ever that gay films/stories are written/directed by gay writers/directors/film makers. Their voices are the authenticity of these stories NOT the actors who act in them. As interpretive artists, the actors identity/orientation is irrelevant.
why do interviewers so often pretend to be opaque, ingenuous? I am still being asked, after decades, "why is your writing so violent?" as if words are not reflective of a time & a culture. as if violence exists nowhere except in fiction & is purely a personal predilection.
