Ciao Franco. Riposa in pace.
🚨❤️🩹 Paolo Maldini: "Ciao Franco, Today I feel the same feeling when, for whatever reason, you couldn't go on the field next to us: what will we do without our Captain?"
"You taught me to fight until my last breath, what does sticking to the shirt mean and the value of being a true leader. You did it by example, every day: few words, but lots of facts."
"You protected me as a child, guided me as a boy and inspired me as a man. You were the strongest football player I have ever had the honor to play with."
"A loving hug to your whole family, especially to your wife and your children. We'll miss you, Captain. But the light of your star will continue to shine on us forever."
Not that terribly long ago Martyn Ziegler broke the story about the European Super League too.
Kids get giddy about the likes of Ornstein and Romano but that is tabloid nonsense compared to real journalism.
Ziegler is THE most important sports journalist in the world.
Extremely impressed with UEFA statement
Much stronger than expected
Unlike other confederations, who seems to think the only issue is they weren’t consulted properly, it eviscerates Gianni
But I don’t think it’s game over yet for Gianni
1. Can @uefa stay united?
2. Might we expect a tariff response from Trump, who will see this as an attack on US investors?
(Meaning: ‘I’m pissed my son in law’s family can’t make 💰’)
3. Might this then become another 🇪🇺 v 🇺🇸 trade war?
But the thing American investors always underestimate - as they did with Super League - is how massively politically popular standing up to US private equity is
It’s win-win for EU/GB politicians
Glen Hansard was so much more than just the guy from ‘Once.’ He was a rock star, synthesizer and serenader, a busker and bard, a jazzman and a mystic, a hushed folk whisperer and showbiz soul belter.

BREAKING: UEFA sources tell @talkSPORT all 55 Member Associations have decided to boycott the men's and women's World Cups in protest at Gianni Infantino's Fifa Forward Enterprise plans.
UEFA members agreed on an emergency call that began around 2pm today that they will not support any FIFA-run tournament.

RIP Glen Hansard ¿Podemos por favor parar 4 minutos y detenernos a apreciar lo absolutamente desgarradora y maravillosa que es Falling Slowly de la BSO de Once con la que ganó un Oscar?
Sometimes I would wonder if Glen Hansard really existed….
Seriously, he was such an angelic presence… not otherworldly…in fact, very present this presence…
A smiling rascal if you needed him to be… this most musical and mischievous archangel of Ballymun… no airs, plenty of graces...
Of course, Glen was the shining star of the Christmas Eve busk… sometimes the only one reminding the rest of us that Christmas began with a refugee born in a manger, which is hardly a step from living on the street.
To be utterly yourself by being more interested in others - a clue for any of us trying out different personas. He really was who you thought he was. He could never walk by a person living rough without checking they were OK… and more than that, he worked very hard so that less people had to live on the streets in the first place.
When the crowds got bigger and for safety’s sake Glen had to agree to move the busk to a stage kindly provided outside The Gaiety Theatre, he would say 'we’ll give it our best but it’s not a busk if we’re not on the street!’ …because that’s who he was - a performer at eye level in any situation. The stage was a separation he wouldn’t recognize. Of all the grand and gigantic venues he and The Frames played, you sensed the street was his most favoured place to perform. And street people, his favourite audience.
Voice of the streets. A choir of angels in one man. The rest of us blessed to stand there beside our very own and very earthed Angel Gabriel… All of us welcome in his choir, whatever shape or form.
….and I’m telling myself this morning that if he never existed, then he can never cease to exist. For me, he will always be everywhere I see a coin spinning into an open guitar case.
May you rest in the peace you gave to so many.
Bono
Enough statements, enough words, enough "careful consideration", enough private disgust. It's time for UEFA and Europe to take action against what FIFA and Infantino are doing to football: https://t.co/NeZx4o5rQ4
