• The CDC estimates 10–30 million Americans received SV40-contaminated polio vaccine.

• SV40 has been found in certain human cancers (brain, bone, lung, etc.), but the CDC and most official sources say the evidence does not prove it causes cancer in humans — though some studies show conflicting results and more research is needed.

The contamination was discovered in 1960, but contaminated lots continued to be used for a while after that.

8 people shot as gunfire erupts during the packed Old West End celebration.

The exact moment shots rang out at a Toledo community street festival. 8 victims were hit Saturday evening near the annual Old West End Festival in the historic district. Families and festivalgoers ran for cover in total panic.

Toledo Police responded to the scene around 5:37 p.m. near Delaware and Glenwood. The event featured live music, food vendors, and home tours. Suspects remain on the run while victims were rushed to hospitals. All are expected to survive.
