This is a good object lesson in why it is necessary to frame the police as a drain on resources and deprive them of funding. Even money intended to help people with addiction is absorbed into the machinery of surveillance snd criminalization, ensuring more people die of addiction.
I talked to a wheelchair user who had to go on his balcony and shout to ask for food, a mom who couldn't user her EBT card, a woman who slept upright in a chair because her COPD machine wouldn't work. The crisis in Gary is the product of structural neglect but also climate change
A heartbreaking investigation revealed that Trump's Bureau of Land Management is systematically rounding up thousands of America's wild horses, then quietly selling them off to buyers who are shipping them to slaughterhouses abroad.
Before, the U.S. government rarely sold wild horses. But since Trump took office, government sales have more than doubled.
Slaughterhouses pay up to $750 a wild horse, the investigation found.
The Bureau of Land Management is nominally in charge of protecting the 73,000 or so wild horses who roam America's public lands in the West. Under Trump, the Bureau is sending our wild horses to the slaughterhouse.

What's happening in Indiana, is the plan. Gary hasn't had power for a week after their power lines came down in a storm. There's NO FEMA. No handing out water or food. There's ZERO coverage on the news. People left completely abandoned. That's the new policy, IT'S YOUR PROBLEM.
Folks on the ground are reporting that ICE has significantly escalated its presence in Springfield this week, becoming more aggressive every day.
Today was very bad.
Will Ohioโs governor and Springfield mayor stand up to this authoritarian effort to sow chaos and fear?
it has to be skin to skin contact, so if ur out protesting cover every inch of your skin. they're trained primarily to grab your arms. also the manual advises to keep the gloves away from water, particularly salt water. fun little fact for you.
Man is the most insane species. He worships an invisible God and destroys a visible Nature. Unaware that this Nature heโs destroying is this God heโs worshiping. - Hubert Reeves
It's awesome how the brightest people with all of the degrees have been screaming at the top of their lungs that we need to get of fossil fuels and the dumbest people and a bunch of robber barons told them to shut the fuck up and we all shrugged and brought on the apocalypse
All these Ohio newspapers are teaming up with Palantir to connect your online user behavior with your true identity, all of which they will sell to marketers. Privacy is dead.
๐จ BREAKING: You need to look at what is happening to our public lands right now. Contractors are bulldozing staging areas right at the mouth of Santa Elena Canyon for a "smart wall" corridor. No environmental impact studies. No protections. Just raw destruction.
"They are literally scraping away generations of protected desert ecology in minutes. This is an ecological tragedy happening in plain sight."

Border Patrol bulldozed three century-old cottonwood trees on the US-Mexico border this week.
Nesting birds were still inside them.
Before touching a single tree, Border Patrol put a promise in writing. Environmental monitors would check the trees first. Any active nests they found would get a protected buffer zone, left alone until the babies were old enough to leave on their own.
The Sierra Club didn't just take their word for it. They sent Border Patrol actual video, proof that birds were nesting in those exact trees, weeks before construction started.
Border Patrol never even responded.
Then the promise meant nothing anyway. No monitors showed up. No buffer zone was set. Crews brought in heavy machinery and took the trees down with the nests still in them.
The same trees that hold nesting birds every single spring.
The same trees whose roots cross the border underground and lean on each other for support, one country's tree holding up another's.
The same trees that shelter antelope, bighorn sheep, and one of the last jaguars left in the US, all of whom use this valley to cross between countries too.
The same trees standing in Lochiel, a ghost town that hasn't had a working border crossing since the 1980s, disturbed by almost nothing until this week.
A protester named Logan Miller, who tried to stop the crews, got arrested.
One tree is still standing. An activist named Kate Scott is camping next to it right now, for as long as she can. "Us as humans could take a little chapter out of their book about coexisting," she said.
Taxpayers are footing a $309 million bill so a company called Fisher Sand and Gravel can bulldoze nesting birds the government promised to protect.
Crossings in this area collapsed by more than 95% in a single year. DHS itself stood in Nogales, right next door, this February, and called it the most secure border in American history.
The law that let them skip NEPA, the Endangered Species Act, the Migratory Bird Treaty Act, and the Clean Water Act dates back to 1996. It allowed Noem to waive almost any environmental protection on the books. No review. No appeal. All at her sole discretion.
In the decade before Trump's first term, it was used seven times total. Trump used it 29 times in four years, and is still using it to date. Project 2025's own foreword, written by Kevin Roberts, dismisses environmental protection as "the Left's love affair with environmental extremism."
Who's protecting the birds when the agency that promised to won't even keep its word on paper? ๐ฆ

๐จ Ohio Huge Move
Amy Acton has announced her policy plan for data centers. She is calling for a moratorium on any data centers that don't meet the following criteria:
- cover ALL their own gas, electric, and water costs
- build with ONLY Union Labor
- bring jobs back to former industrial areas
- only use brownfields not farmland for data center buildouts
- no operating behind non-disclosures and full transparency
- meet standing Ohio environmental standards
- mist support the needs of local communities
This is hugely important to the future of our state and our children's futures.
Vivek Ramaswamy has been touring around Ohio for a year meeting with business leaders making deals behind closed doors that hurt Ohioans, take jobs from the state, replace workers with H1Bs, harm our water and farmland, automate what jobs we do have, only to benefit himself and the rest the billionaire technocrats.
Many of us have been waiting for this. I hope everyone understands the importance of this policy.
People better start making decisions based on now, not five years ago. Different times, different priorities. DeWine is gone.
Terrifying thread.
Due to a legal ruling which lets AI companies off the hook for copyright infringement as long as they destroy the original book, they're buying up millions of rare books, scanning them as AI training data, and then destroying them.
