The oldest books of the Bible were written over 3,000 years ago.

And when they were written, tallow skincare was already ancient.

Let that sink in. The earliest records we have of humans using animal fat on their skin come from Babylonian clay tablets dated to around 2800 BC. That’s a soap recipe. Rendered animal fat and wood ash, written down almost 5,000 years ago. The Egyptians were blending animal fats into medicinal salves in the Ebers Papyrus around 1550 BC, before most of the Old Testament existed.

So when scripture talks about anointing oils, balms, and the fat of the land, it isn’t describing something new. It’s describing something that was already ancestral THEN.

Now think about what we did with that information.

We took 5,000 years of humans putting animal fat, olive oil, honey and resins on their skin, and we replaced it in roughly one generation with petroleum byproducts, seed oil derivatives and synthetic fragrance. Then we act surprised that skin barriers are wrecked and half the country is reactive to their own moisturiser.

Esther did six months of oil of myrrh. Newborns were rubbed with salt and oil. There was a written anointing oil recipe in Exodus with exact measurements, and a named profession for the man who blended it.

Skincare was not invented in a lab in 1960. It was practiced, refined and written down for thousands of years before any of us got here.
