The mountains of Madeira play a key role in what’s known as the orographic effect. When moist air from the ocean is pushed upward by the island's steep slopes, it cools rapidly, leading to condensation and the formation of clouds. This is why you often see clouds hanging low over the mountains, as depicted in the X post image where a thick layer of fog or cloud is seen rolling over the peaks. The web result mentions how the mountains, often rising above 1,400 meters, "block the gusts and clouds," causing them to accumulate on the windward side, particularly in the north.
