@DavidADaoud Haredi-Arab coalition soon hopefully

[Gabe @Donges_Figs]

@Mish_K_ Were they supposed to vote for the party that let them get massacred?

[Gabe @Donges_Figs]

@Prolemasses People who are good at intra-party politics and use that to succeed in one-party states often underperform when they have to deal with a competitive general

Week in the life of a Druze Israeli

-apply for building permit for the 145th time, get rejected for the 145th time
-serve in the Golan, your commander is a 19yr old bisexual
-return to your village, find the Israeli govt demolishing your grandparents home which was built without a permit in 1785

repeat 🔁

@AsianDawn4 I guess this is what Koreans do all day instead of having kids or trying to fix gender relations in their society?

[Gabe @Donges_Figs]

@SashaGusevPosts Of course part of the issue is that a lot of time is spent on more historical stuff. It feels like they took a stodgy old great books list and then let critical studies people throw in some contemporary stuff they like. This just an issue with curriculum by committee.

[Gabe @Donges_Figs]

@SashaGusevPosts Part of a certain kind of left-wing critical studies-ish intellectual tradition. That’s not to say that this work is bad but I think a core curriculum should include some more contemporary political economists, contemporary conservative and liberal thinkers (no Rawls?) and so on.

For a moment I wondered if Trump might show some decorum. He occasionally does this (e.g., canceling the Fort Hood execution livestream, expressing displeasure at Good and Pretti being killed). That was foolish of me. Trump's one ideological pillar is that he is pro-rape

[Gabe @Donges_Figs]

@Tyler_A_Harper But I like solving little technical puzzles:)

Average Anthropic employee evidently believes GDP growth will be 17% while unemployment is 50%, see no contradictions here.

[Gabe @Donges_Figs]

@InlandCaGuy The implication that she’s tied to terrorists is even crazier given that she’s Jewish and has lived in Israel for a long time (and even raised her kids there).

[Gabe @Donges_Figs]

@hecubian_devil Okay but this is the one domain in which Zitron seems to have a decent chance of being basically right (revenue won’t grow to match commitments) even if he’s a little too pessimistic on the specific numbers.

[Gabe @Donges_Figs]

@Afinetheorem I suspect this kind of framing is less a reason the public is anti-AI and more of a reflection of the fact that they already are anti-Ai and thus prefer anti-AI stuff.

[Gabe @Donges_Figs]

@kvallier Well, that day already happened (1785, in Koenigsberg)

[Gabe @Donges_Figs]

@slatestarcodex @MelMitchell1 I wouldn’t make claims about what people have expertise in if I hadn’t looked over their recent work—and if you had looked over Mitchell’s work, this would be even worse because then you’d just willfully misrepresenting her expertise!

[Gabe @Donges_Figs]

@littmath @Quasilocal Do you see this improving over time? Do the new wave of proofs have more novelty?

[Gabe @Donges_Figs]

@TheStalwart You could probably get better writing if you focused on RL for that but I imagine there are tradeoffs with the things labs are more interested in

[Gabe @Donges_Figs]

@TheStalwart In my view, AI has reached the level of a pretty good writer with a certain tendency towards style over substance and then mostly plateaued or declined because it was RLed for other stuff

[Gabe @Donges_Figs]

@TheStalwart Well, if the cases you are thinking of are the cases I have in mind, the works were clearly done with relatively old models (C’etait ca ou mourir was published in March 2026 and presumably ‘written’ in 2024 or 25). I’m not sure there’s been much progress here.
