Excited to announce our new study published in @AGA_CGH#palliativehepatology
Patients w/ cirrhosis highly value timely prognostic communication. Yet, 81% of the 218 pts in our study never discussed end-of-life care wishes with their hepatologist.

Patients with cirrhosis want to discuss their prognosis and need more concurrent symptom management and psychological support.
Thank you @NnekaUfereMD for your incredible guidance and support in this work! #palliativehepatology

Patients who considered themselves terminally ill and those who expressed desire for more prognostic information had lower quality of life and higher symptom burden, anxiety, and depression -- No difference between those listed for transplant vs not listed.
Psychological distress is prevalent and interdependent among patients with decompensated cirrhosis and their caregivers, confirming cirrhosis as a SHARED EMOTIONAL CONTAGION within dyads - our new study published in @AmJGastro#palliativehepatology

WOW... to have this study published and to match @mghmedres in the same week 🙏 Time to get to work. Incredibly grateful to the patients and coauthors who made this work possible; forever indebted to the best mentor possible @NnekaUfereMD
Proud of this study led by @donlan_john - why?
1️⃣As my very first RA, he recruited almost all of the over 200 patients in this study
2️⃣He first-authors the study he poured his heart and soul into
3️⃣He just matched into the finest IM residency program in the country @mghmedres ❤️
Get to know the ESAS
a reliable, valid, and responsive tool for assessing symptom burden in patients with cirrhosis and can predict changes in quality of life.
How do I know that? Because @NnekaUfereMD told me
Where did she tell me?

NEW data on FMT 💩 for Hepatic Encephalopathy
FMT improved cognitive test scores!
But there’s more:
1️⃣Not all FMT donors are created equal (to treat HE)
2️⃣Recipient microbiome influenced FMT efficacy
3️⃣More FMT may be better

@NnekaUfereMD@TIndriolo And I can’t say enough about the value of amazing mentorship! I’ve learned so much from you working on #palliativehepatology. This year on the wards, I often find myself reflecting on what I’ve learned and how I can incorporate these lessons into patient care.
1/13 Now in press @AGA_CGH: Our pilot RCT to test the feasibility, acceptability, and preliminary efficacy of ACP video decision support tool on transplant-ineligible ESLD patients’ knowledge about & preferences for end-of-life care #palliativehepatology
