In the evening, I held a high-level meeting with the leadership of the Coast Water Works Development Agency (CWWDA), Mombasa Water Supply & Sanitation Company Limited (MOWASCO), and Kilifi-Mariakani Water & Sewerage Company Limited (KIMAWASCO). I was accompanied by Kilifi Governor H.E. Gideon Mung'aro and Malindi MP Hon. Mnyazi Amina Laura.
The discussions addressed key challenges facing the Baricho Water Supply Project, with a particular focus on advancing the solarization project at Baricho to lower pumping costs. The hybrid system will replace the current full reliance on the national grid.
The Baricho Water Supply Project is a vital source of water for Mombasa and Kilifi counties. It abstracts water from a wellfield near the Sabaki River through drilled boreholes, transmission pipelines, and upgraded pumping and treatment facilities. These enhancements will increase water capacity and improve reliability, especially during challenges like flooding.
The projectโs ultimate goal is to provide a dependable bulk water supply to Mombasa and Kilifi counties, including the areas of Malindi, Watamu, and Gongoni.
