As we celebrate International Day of Persons with Disabilities 2024, DSS Champion Florin Nolan presented DSS Director Aine Flynn and MHC Chief Executive John Farrelly with an original piece of art.
They were attending #TheADMConference taking place in Cork today.
The @HSELive National Office for Human Rights and Equality Policy, School of Law @UCC and the @DSS_Ireland will deliver #TheADMConference "Assisted Decision-Making (Capacity) Act 2015 - Reflections, Challenges, and Opportunities", over the next two days in Cork.
A person must give their consent for any type of medical procedure, test, or examination. Healthcare workers must ensure that consent has been given.
For consent to be valid, the person must:
➡️ be making a voluntary choice
➡️ have been given the necessary information in a way they can understand it
➡️ have the decision-making capacity to make the decision

Our next speaker on legal capacity is Jennifer Wairimu, @JennyDimp, a litigation officer with Validity Foundation @ValidityNGO. Her presentation discusses the criminal justice system and legal capacity for women with intellectual disabilities. #15thDSS
