Maud Gonne - English-born Irish republican and suffragette of Anglo-Irish descent - died in Dublin on this day in 1953. She was 86. Converted to Irish cause by Land Wars, she became a Home Ruler, then republican. She was also muse and long-time love interest of W. B. Yeats.
