THIS EVENT IS NO LONGER ACTIVE; THIS ACCOUNT IS NOT CHECKED. • Monthly event with talks on tech, community, and creativity served with donuts and friendliness.
Hello friends! It’s been a while. It is with heavy, donut-laden hearts that we formally announce that Donut.js is winding down. Please see https://t.co/EOK6yJyhbD for a longer farewell note. Thank you, thank you, thank you to everyone for making Donut.js so wonderful. 🍩‿🍩
Hi friends! Quick update: We moved our money to
@opencollect (https://t.co/ho3NFSBcmd). We’re saving funds for future events, but had more than we need so we donated to Warm Springs Community Action Team (https://t.co/XK2iGaICWW) and Black Resilience Fund (@blackresiliency).
Under normal circumstances, we would be half an hour into Donut.js right now. We hope you’re all doing okay! We miss you all a lot and can’t wait to see you again. Stay safe, wear a mask, wash your hands, and if you can find a way to eat donuts, do so. 🍩‿🍩
Hi everybody, we hope you and yours are safe and healthy! Now that we won’t be meeting in person for a while, how would you feel about a virtual/online Donut.js?
The video for my talk @donutjs on making podcasts accessible though machine learning transcription is up! Check it out! I’m happy to answer any questions people might have 😁

Good afternoon, donut friends. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Donut.js will be on hiatus until it’s safe to meet up again. We will not be meeting in March or April or until stated otherwise. Be safe, be careful, and we’ll enjoy a donut with you soon.
Surprised to find I am not completely horrified by watching a video of myself speak, and it’s great to learn from 🤓
Check out my talk on How To Support The Junior Dev On Your Team as told by a jr dev 🎉
Hi all. Due to scheduling issues and coronavirus concerns, Donut.js will not be happening in March. We intend to resume Donut.js in April and hope to see you then.
🍩‿🍩📣 Would you or somebody you know give a great talk at Donut.js? We’ve got slots open in March and April! Submit your talk here: https://t.co/hKYRSs1yyZ

🍩 host @AlchemyCodeLab!
See you in March!
Yesss we need more hosts! So excited to see the first participants in the program have a great experience! If you can spare half a day to support a junior dev sign up here 👉🏻 https://t.co/qBk7ef5NKM
Lexa Whitehurst shared her story of neurodivergence in tech and how we can nurture a diverse tech environment.
When we say “culture fit,” we should seek to add folks who *complement* the existing environment, rather than replicating those already in it, and then *support* them!
And Ben reminds us:
• JS can alleviate a lot of the costs preventing people from making their podcasts accessible.
• Automation isn’t perfect, and accessibility effects still require human intervention!
• Involve people in your accessibility project who will be affected by it!
Next up, @kassman_ben tells us about using machine learning to provide transcriptions for podcasts. Here, he shows us a side-by-side diff of an automated transcription and the same transcript corrected by hand. The automated version is 94% correct!
