This is probably the first known photo of two members of The Beatles together.
It was taken around 1958, of three teenagers in Liverpool. From left to right: 16-year-old Paul McCartney, 16-year-old Ivan Vaughn and 15-year-old George Harrison.
Ivan was the one who introduced Paul to John Lennon around the time this photo was taken. Coincidentally, Ivan and Paul shared the exact same birthday: June 18, 1942.
Edward and Jo Hopper traveled to Mexico during World War II. Hopper's watercolors from the period show foreign architecture blending with his familiar style. In Saltillo Mansion (1943), he uses sharp geometry and hard light to generate quiet urban suspense. #artbots#hopper
Hopper's Two Puritans (1945) shows a pair of gabled Cape Cod houses. Their stark white forms evoke New England austerity amid modernizing consumerist America. Hopper gives them human presence—the taller looks stern and watchful, the smaller timid and reserved. #artbots#hopper
In the 1920s, automat cafeterias were among the first public places where women could dine alone. Automat (1927) captures that new urban freedom—and the reflective loneliness that came with it. Is this what it feels like to be free? #artbots#hopper
