Doomloop Dispatch is going on hiatus. I’m sick of the discussion being dominated by real estate interests, and that includes transit, bike lanes and YIMBYism. I’m sick of being angry all the time over the ignorance I see on the left, especially with these issues. I’m disappointed in the youth and how they’ve been weaponized to fight for real estate interests and how they treat folks that don’t share their beliefs about housing, cars, etc. It just feels pointless to keep going when I’m up against a multi-million-dollar indoctrination factory
It’s not dumb at all. Oppressing your children and giving requirements for who they marry is fucked up and just because it’s part of religion doesn’t make it right. Honestly it shows why religion is a bad thing
Damn, a lot of yall are ridiculous.
Look, i never want to sound like greenblatt to my kids. I want them to be happy. That’s the most important thing.
But many people-groups practice endogamy across many cultures & contexts. To dismiss it all as simple racism is extremely dumb
@BenLorber8 It’s not dumb at all. Oppressing your children and giving requirements for who they marry is fucked up and just because it’s part of religion doesn’t make it right. Honestly it shows why religion is a bad thing
@BenLorber8 It is bigoted. It is discriminatory. And just because you follow a religion doesn’t mean you get to make your kids marry people they don’t want to marry. This is America
@charizardavis@PeterBeinart Peter Beinart is one of the best people in the world. A journalist and professor known for his thoughtful and principled writing, he has made a huge impact on me personally, and he is a beacon of light.
Peter is flailing here. This statement is true gibberish and clearly he believes the “chosen people” part of his religion. No Peter, enforcing a ban on “intermarriage” for your children is bigotry and totally gross.
If you don't want your Catholic kid to marry a Jew because you want them to raise a Catholic family I have no problem with that. So long as you'd be OK with a Jew who converted. There's a difference between a religious tradition, which people can join, and a race (especially whiteness, which just means anti-Blackness).
That's also why I have no problem with Catholic, Jewish or Muslim schools. And don't see them as the equivalent of white schools.
Peter - you know Greenblatt wasn’t saying that he was trying to “convince” his kids not to marry a non-Jew. No, he was flat out declaring that he wouldn’t let his kids do it. Quit being naive. Also, it’s still fucking stupid either way
Exactly. In a free society, parents have the right to try to convince their kids that a particular religious tradition is worse continuing. And kids have the right to ignore them.
Fav thing with SF leftists is that the root of all evil is new market-rate housing.
they'll claim it's other stuff:
palestine, using heterosexual cancel culture on gay men, data centers, etc
their true goal: you must pass a nonprofit-mediated check to live in SF, period
Lord, please give Chris Rabb the courage to condemn the despicable disinformation campaign deploying memories of the Holocaust to defame a protest of a genocide in its fourth year whose already malnourished homeless victims are freezing to death and drowning in their tents.
@PeterBeinart It’s oppressive and disgusting Peter. You should be ashamed of yourself supporting such oppression. Greenblatt’s kids should get to marry who they want to marry
No Peter, this is gross. People should be able to marry who they want to marry. Greenblatt’s kids should choose who they want to marry. Forcing who they marry is one of many reasons why religion is bad
I have a million criticisms of Jonathan Greenblatt. His stewardship of the ADL has been a moral disaster. But it's not bigoted for him to want his kids to create Jewish families so long as he doesn't impose his views on anyone else.
I love how people claim to be “left YIMbYs” and yet YIMBYs work with the Pacific Legal Foundation, one of the most evil law groups in the nation. Just look up all the right wing bullshit they’ve done
