VIDEO | With its stellar line-up of historians, writers and film personalities, and a wide array of topics, the three-day Dehradun Literature Festival was a stimulating place to be. Debates and echoes of Vishal Bhardwaj’s evocative poetry filled Doon International School -- the venue of the seventh edition of the festival that concluded on Sunday.

Actor Adil Hussain said, "So, these are the places where younger people can be groomed or can be inspired to induce certain amount of curiosity about life through the literature, through the conversations, through the books that the festival had to offer. I think it is absolutely necessary, I would call it a social necessity that there should be more literature festivals not only in the capital cities but also in the smaller places."

Dehradun | Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participates in Dehradun Literature Festival. On this occasion, he released the book Leading Ladies of India, authored by Venu Agrahara Dhingra.

He says, "Literature is a powerful medium for expressing emotions, thoughts, and experiences. I hope that Leading Ladies of India would inspire readers, especially women, to move forward with confidence... Under the guidance of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the state government is continuously working towards women’s empowerment... Several schemes are being implemented by the state government to make women self-reliant.

He also says, "For the past two years, the state has been organizing the Pravasi Uttarakhandi Conference. Its main objective is to keep people connected to their roots. Following the organization of these conferences, many expatriates have expressed their desire to contribute to the development of their native villages and to the progress of the state."
