“Hindutva.”

“Attack on women's bodily autonomy.”

Prime-time debates would be asking whether India was becoming a theocracy.

But change the religion…

Suddenly, the outrage becomes remarkably polite.

And that tells you everything about our so-called progressive ecosystem.

Let me be clear: Christian organisations have every democratic right to campaign against abortion. We defend that right.

But don't lecture Hindus about keeping religion out of the public square while quietly making exceptions for everyone else.

And spare us the imported lectures about Indian society needing lessons in women's empowerment.

India elected a woman Prime Minister less than two decades after Independence.

Meanwhile, one of the world's loudest exporters of these lectures is approaching 250 years since its independence — and has still never elected a woman President.

So perhaps those importing foreign culture wars into Tamil Nadu should understand something:

We don't need the West to teach India how to respect women.

Debate abortion.
Debate religion.
Debate women's rights.

But apply one standard to every faith.

Otherwise don't call it secularism.
Call it selective secularism.

Shame on an ecosystem that discovers fundamentalism only when the faith happens to be Hindu.

04-08-2026 Madambakkam: Power cut from 10:30 PM and it still has not come. Current time 2:30 AM. It's been 4+ hours now.

Yesterday also (03-08-2026), there was a power cut from 7 PM to 9:30 PM.
